Hey all,

Just wanted to say "Hi" from a new member and also try to get a little advice. I'm currently looking into buying a Mk V GT TDI, but seem to be struggling to get what I'd regard as a decent deal.

This is going to be my first entry into VW ownership, and I must admit, the dealers are different to what I'm used to (had a Clio previously and a 147 currently).

I didn't seem to have problems haggling down the prices a little on my previous two cars and maybe getting some extras thrown in, but I'm coming up against a bit of a brick wall when trying to get any kind of discount off the rrp for the Golf. At best this seems to be a couple of hundred quid.

I understand this could be to do with the marque, but seeing some of the deals you guys have got on here, I seem to have been quoted over the odds.

So, any tips on getting a nice deal? Based near Sheffield if anyone knows a nice dealer in the area [:D]

Cheers, and I appreciate any help.

Try www.drivethedeal.com or a similar broker. They offer good discounts and, provided you go with one of the main brokers, are fairly trustworthy. You actually pay them no money directly as it all goes directly to the VW dealer that they put you in touch with. I nearly bought a GTTDI and I was put in touch with a dealer in Burnley I think. I cant remember the exact discount but I think it was at least 1500. Do a search and youll find more on drivethdeal and others. Only trouble is that youll need to sell your old car privately (if you need to sell one). But this way you should get a good deal. In my limited experience, VW stealers are really stingy with discounts but if you do have a car to trade in they may give you a good price. Good luck and very good choice of car.[:)][:)]

I am sure you are unlucky with your timing. I got my GT TDi last September and paid ?17,500 for a ?19,500 car.

The problem with your timing is that the whole range is being bolstered up because of the GTi's extremely positive press. The flagship car being 'number 1' in it's field is sure to filter down the range, add to that the fact diesels are in at the moment, and you can understand why VW may be harder to deal with.

Having said all that, it is extremely good news for second hand values.

I think many on here have used UK brokers - That may be the best place to start.

?16,600 (2.0 TDI 5dr Manual) + ?800 worth of options (paint, winter pack, lux pack 2, storage pack, armrest), payed just under ?17,400 total for mine from http://www.uknewcars.com/

Picked up my car from VW in Bury St.Edmunds. Very happy with the discount and service from both UK New Cars and the VW garage. We're replacing our E46 BMW with a new shape A4 using the same brokers.

Gotta love those 10+% discounts [:D]

Hi all

Just wanted to say what a great deal I got from VW Advantage Stirling although they are 400 miles away from were I live here in Hertfordshire.

I paid ?17,295 for a 54 plate 2.0 GTTDI in met silver, centre armrest, six CD changer, Headlamp protectors and mats, the car should have been ?19,509.

The only thing was that it was pre- regestered with 24 miles on the clock, no great shakes, my car was brand new and over 2k off.

and to top it all the family got a weekend in Scotland although it was in late October last year, still the wife and kids loved it.

Its worth looking at the individual dealer used stock levels on the VW web site as thats were they will place there pre regestered cars, not the main used car section.

Okay it takes a lot of looking but you can get great deals if you are prepared to travel.

good luck

I got just under ?1,000 off mine, direct from the dealer, and he gave me ?500 more for my trade in than i could have got selling the car privately!.

Sales guy was honest saying that any loss made on the resale of the p-ex's doesnt stand against them when the income from their sales is added up!

Best thing to do is print off some quotes from said brokers, take them into stealers and if they cant come near, go to broker!

Hello,

Just ordered a Golf GTi and am getting of ?1800 off the price. Ordered it from www.dsgauto.com They're in Stockport do not too far away. My Local dealers in the SE wouldn't budge on the price.

Is that an import?

Car is to order, to my spec. Current ETA is April.

I did discuss the possibility of px. I got the impression that it's not something they deal with directly but they can set up a dialogue between you and the dealer who will supply the car ultimately.

I decided I'll probarbly sell my car privately or put it through the auction nearer the time, but once the delivery day is nearer, I'll approach the supplying dealer for a px quote.

So far so good, fingers crossed the rest of the process goes as smoothly.

I paid ?16200 for a new (at the time) 54 plate GT TDI with the centre arm rest and CD changer, mats, pearl paint and the paint protection thingy. Not bad for a car that would have been nearly ?19,000 RRP.

What new, not pre-registered or an import? That is one cracking deal. Where did you get it?

Local dealer. It had been built but not registered. Its a 2004 spec car but it still has the dimming mirrors etc. The only things i dont have is the full size MFD, seat belt chime and locable glove box. I just went in with the jamjar price and asked them to beat it and they did. This was around september when i think VW where having difficulty shifting mkvs

Interesting Point Mr McQueen I bought mine last September as well and my first dealer I tried was prepared to knock ?1,800 off the price for a straight deal (this matched the stuff on the web) and this was for exactly what I wanted not just what was lying in UK stock.

I was not planning to change as my MK IV was only 3 1/2 years old and 24,000 on the clock but that was too tempting.

In the end I traded in as another dealer gave me a better deal on a trade in.

Melchior,

I have just rung DSGAuto and they told me they only do contract hire - not cars for outright sale? Is this what you meant when you said ?1800 discount - was that on say a 3 year contract?

Cheers,

ZMan
