posting on behalf of a mate who was eagerly awaiting delivery of his brand spankers new Mk V GTi today. He was, as you can probably appreciate, rather looking forward to it!

Dealer rings to say he'll be there with car in 30 mins. Cool. Rings back 40 mins later - 'very sorry. Car has no power, and is being returned to workshop.'

After several hours in the shop, with diagnostics etc. no fault can be found! Yikes.

So sad day for my mate. Garage think it could a turbo problem?

Mate is gutted - but at least he hasn't signed for the car yet (it's a company car). THing is, dealer has had car in for a week, and surely a PDI would include a decent test drive? Seems incredibly bad luck for fault to only be found as it was being delivered.

Any one had a similar experience? Any advice would be most appreciated too. No idea how/when this is gonna get sorted. Mate is rather worried now, and I;m feeling bad as I convinced him to go for a VW and use this dealer.

Thanks,

Thanks guys.

Thing is, there was no choice about picking it up, as it is a company car, and the lease people insist on it being delivered.

We're investigating today, so I'll keep you posted.

Anyone out there had a similar mechanical/electrical/management problem (does not show up on vag-com)with the new GTi? (Drives, but no pulling power - similar to turbo problem??)?

Oh, and I know the sales manager has his own GTi, and I have known the dealership for a while, so I don't think it's anything untoward like that.

Keep the comments coming though - in case this does turn into a nightmare!

You mean if you ring the salesman he will say "no you cannot collect your car - I am legally bound to drive it to your home"? Weird!

If, bizzarly, this is true then at least go to the showroom and be driven by him. This is what I would do anyway as I would just not trust someone to drive my (performance) car for me.

Mark,

No sign of what exactly wrong yet, or when it'll be sorted. However, mate has spoken in no uncertain terms, and will now be picking it up!!

I'm getting a little concerned now though - I've seen 2 new GTi's at the road side, getting tlc from Volkswagen breakdown folk.

Is there something the forum folk should know, I ask myself?

I repeat, if anyone knows of of a similar experience with the turbo management going t. u. on a new GTi, could they let me know the details. THanks.

Mark V,

It lives again.

Mate has collected his GTi now, and it's been sorted out. Dealer was very good about it in the end, with pressies given, humble pie eaten etc.

We were out in it last night, and it's a fabulous car. Looks great in black, and goes round corners flatter than cat deely!

I will endeavour to uncover the route of what the problem was though, as am on good terms with the garage.

I'm feelin rather envious now, as my Match TDi continues to roll like and pitch like Ellen McArthur's boat.

Fuel pump control unit (looks like an oversized relay really) seems to be the issue. Rumour from VW that they may recall and fit modified part. Only heard this from one source at the minute tho so dont go running to the dealers and asking for specific parts to be replaced. This could be just one technicians finding on one car and may not be the whole story? If I find out any more then I will let you know.

ForgeRIchard,

Cheers; if you hear more on that it would be good to know. I;m hoping to get the 'official' gen on my mates problem (now solved)and will post it up.

Think it was an issue with management getting signal that max turbo boost had been achieved, when it obviously hadn't. Still, like I say, if I can find out more, I'll let you know.
