Serves them right for not gettin the new one to you sooner. Return the favour and pick it up in March. Just go AWOL for a couple of weeks!

Problem is they could just register it to meet their sales target [V]

I imagine they will not be selling many vehicles this month.

Get them sorted out. Is it not enough that you have been messed around for so long? Forget their sales targets. Go in, be really assertive and say you will pick the car up on the 1st of march and dont want it registered sooner. Dont ask them, tell them. (and good luck with the new car [^])

BAsically the current car is falling to bits, major faults with gearbox etc etc. broken down a couple of times and basically a dduff car

So my dealer replaced it for a new1 for a "small fee" which wasnt too bad to be honest

My dealer tried to give me the same spin about the car being ready for delivery, and it wasn't possible to wait another few weeks due to all sorts of reasons. Not a snowballs chance in hell I was taking that crap.

I insisted the car was not gonna be accepted as a 54 plate and his boss finally agreed, saying they just had to get cars registered asap.

I'd push it all the way mate.

You tell him elliotp. I had the same feeling when I wanted xenons - I really didnt need the hassle of arguing with these guys but in the end, it was definitely the right decision. The key is to be assertive - at the end of the day, it is your car and your money. You are doing THEM a favour. Good luck whatever you do, should be a great ride
