I am going to place an order for a Mkv Gti tomorrow. The options I am
having are the Highline computer and Xenon headlights. The only part I
am having trouble with is choosing the colour, I have narrowed it down
to Reflex Silver or Steel Grey. I like to colour of the Steel Grey, but
the Reflex Silver will be easier to keep looking good.

What do you guys think?

How do you find the colour for keeping it clean Andy. Did the dealer
just paint the orignal bits of trim, as my local dealer seems to think
that I would have to buy the caracter (excuse spelling) body kit and
get that painted. They said that the standard plastic trim cannot be
painted.

This is half true. Due to the texture of the standard valance it makes
it hard for the paint to stick, but not impossible. They would have to
sand the valance then spray it.

Steel grey when clean and in sunlight looks great, however on an overcast/rainy day it looks really drab in my opinion. I owned one for a month and definitely did not want another for the replacement car. I wish it were a slightly lighter grey than it is.

Read somewhere recently that car colours have quite an effect on a cars value, mostly negative. The only colour that could add value was metallic black, silver was ?0 difference but everything else was negative.

The GTI will be a slightly different case though as a colour like red would be negative in a regular Golf but probably not in the GTI.

This info came from Glasse's guide apparantly.

There aren't many cars that look v good in dull weather though. I'm thinking I've chosen the right colour for mine http://www.tyresmoke.net/gallery/albuv11, and like said previously it sets off the red front trim very well.

Definitely recommend the centre armrest, and the additional armrest CD changer works very well with the standard headunit, although most younger forum-goers seem to prefer the IPOD/MP3 compatible stereos. I'm now 34, and find the CD changer perfect for my needs.

Check out the smokers pack option too (even if not a smoker), as the 2006 model GTI has a gaping hole where the 2005 model has a nice shiny lid to cover up a multitude of sweet wrapper sins!!

Hope this helps, Chalky

I love the new GTI in white!! [H]

With the 18" alloys in anthracite (they would contrast well with all the black unpainted bits imo) and a non-standard interior trim of black leather on the outsides and Interlagos cloth on the centre of the seats (do you reckon they would do this on special order?) it would IMHO look like old-school GTIs (which I've never had the chance to own [:(]) but in a modern package [:D]

Right I am going for Reflex Silver with Xenon's and the Highline
computer. What extra functionality does the highline have over the
standard one? As I am presuming it will be a 2006 model year when it
turns up is there anyway to get it with brushed aluminium lid on the
ash tray?

Seckles have you got any more pics of you car?

I think someone posted you need to ask for the "smoker's pack" to get the Al cover.

Like I said earlier consider adding the armrest, well worth ?125.

Tell us about your deal please. Have you got any discount? Are you trading in?

I am doing it through Lexfreechoice.co.uk I am putting down a ?5k
deposit and then paying ?267.05 for 3 years. At the end of the 3 years,
I can pay the end value, hand it back and do another agreement or hand
it back and walk away. The payments include Road Tax and payment
protection.

I have just had a look on the factory fit options list and can't see
anything about the smokers pack, is this a recent addition.?

Yup smokers pack is a new thing - only got mine sorted out a couple weeks ago, and the 2006s are very new... Get it checked before you order if you want that :)

PS mine's a 2005 (and probably one of the last)
