Very nice, black's the nicest colour, the downside is it's the most difficult to keep clean.

I spent ages cleaning mine the other weekend, it was gleaming, then Monday drove down the road and got stuck behind some huge lorry in the rain that was kicking up the most amount of dirt ever...all over my car, not a happy bunny!

That makes me so sad because thats exactly what I am saving for!

Looks awesome, saw one on the road but in 5dr and that looked great.

Very envious of you.

When did you order?

Keep us updated on how you are getting on with it.

Whats the leg room like in the back?

Well, what can I say that hasn't been said already. This car is AWESOME !! It is very fast, handles superbly, the ride is firm but not bumpy, the brakes give you an amazing amount of confidence and the DSG is fantastic !!

I ordered mine on 30/12/04, originally told it would be ready end of Feb, although I did change from manual to DSG half way through Jan, so that may have had an effect. Having said that, it is certainly worth the wait.

For once, the M4 was a nice place to be [:D]

Cheers,

Lee

Had a couple of looks this morning going down the M4, but that was probably due to the strange grin I seem to have developed since I picked it up [^]

Last night, I lined up against a couple of chavs in a Clio Sport, I couldn't resist it and floored it, needless to say, they were last seen disappearing in my rear-view mirror [:D]

Great fun isn't it?!

I had a bit of a play with a TT 3.2 today, I think he was expecting to whiz out and overtake easily but as he went to go pass I floored it! There was a huge grin on my face when the gap between me and him was getting bigger. Obviously you never know how hard the other driver is pushing it but as I'd already overtaken him on the slip road I reckon he would have been trying quite hard to get past me.

Be careful with the brakes though, I found for the first few hundred miles they need bedding in, they're sharp around town but at higher speeds they'll need more of a shove than you expect, they nearly caught me out coming off a slip road at 70!

Thanks for those photos. Looks great. Damn, I really wish I'd ordered the 18" Monzas. Haven't seen a photo of a black 3 dr with 17s yet.

I have a black 3dr with 17's and they look fine, a friend of mine picked up hers the same day as me and she had 18s and there really isn't as much of a difference as it seems in the pictures. Not once have I looked at mine and thought 'they're too small, I wish I'd gone with the 18s'.

It's far too good a car to be worried about the size of the wheels, you'll be to busy spending time in it than outside looking at the wheels!

I'm afraid I don't have a digital camera so I've got no pics to show yet.

Wow, she looks beautiful, i'm picking my 3dr Metallic Black up on Saturday, got manual though, can't wait. The good thing about this car, and some have touched upon it, is that from the outside it doesnt look fast or sporty, but God pretty help those Mondeos, et, etc that currently overtake my Golf Mk IV GTi most days, lol...i mean today, a Mini Cooper S Works flew past me, don't think he'll do that next week somehow!!Quote: posted by lee_d_m on 12/04/2005 10:44:34

Nice looking car! Looks awesome!

Did you say the M4? I saw an article in todays Times, saying they are going to be putting out these new speed cameras mounted on trucks on bridges along the M4, and that they will be trapping anything over 79mph, thats a bit harsh I think (especially if you're in a GTI!) Not that I would condone breaking the speed limit but there's times when you creep over the limit and when everyone else on the motorway is doing it, you wont realise until its too late and 9mph over is not much at all! Must admit it was quite an interesting article.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

bbdivo, I heard exactly that today re: the M4, as I understand it, it'll be between J14 and J16 starting next week, luckily for me, I don't go that way, but I agree, it is a bit naughty of them.

The DSG is....well, it should be called the Dog's Bo&%^$ks, especially in manual mode with the paddles, its so much fun and really adds another dimension to driving. I've never had an auto before, and thought I may miss the manual, but I know I won't, I'm pretty sure in 5 years time, DSG will be standard.

JamesR, although I think that red is probably the best colour for the GTI as it shows off the front grill more, one advantage I feel the black has is that the wheels look better in that the red calipers stand out much more, I have to say, I do love the wheels, and can't feel a difference in the ride between 17's and 18's.

Anways, new camera should be here tomorrow so I'll try to post some more pics then, thanks again for all your comments.

Fab looking motor Lee. I'm getting v impatient seeing all these shining examples [|)]

There was a scam about cameras on the M4 near Newbury a year or two ago, but yes, I heard same news on Radio 1 the other morning, and it wasn't April 1. They mentioned Wiltshire, so junc 14-16 does ring true. Beware everyone. How many times do you drive below 79mph?

As for mk5 GTIs..... Get in!
