A 40bhp increase from a chip on a NA engine? thats nearly a 50% increase, are those figures correct?
the mini one's engine is basically a restricted mini cooper (not S! and yes there are other differences!)) engine and the butterfly in the throttle body is restricted to limit the power output. So yep a rechip take's it up to be almost the same as the coopers engine.
ChrisStevens,
The boot is pathetic on them basically my laptop bag and gym bag filled mine when I had it. If you like your golf and the quality of the golf you will not like the mini. I had one and loved it on the test drives (both test drives where for over an hour) and ordered one as soon as I had it I realised it wasn't that great and sold it as soon as I could.
I'm not bashing the new mini here, they do look pretty cool from the out side and the inside looks good (although they use really chepa plastics that are easily marked!) as well it's just that in my opinion the build quality is awful, the ride is worse and you need to thrash the pants of them to get them to go any where (meaning rubbish fuel economy - my R returns similar MPG figures to my cooper S!) If I didn't travel the miles to work eash day I do I may have kept minei for longer - but I doubt it...
And if you do get onoe ditch the run flat tyres ASAP as they kill the ride and handling, a simple change to normal tyres results in a nicer ride and much better handling.
