Morning All,

This is my 1st time of posting on this site, so please be gentle with me .. :)

I currently drive a 54 plate A3 s-line, but this is a company car, and
might be going shortly. I have been looking at my options as far
as new cars are concerned, and I really fancy getting a new GTI.

My question is, has anyone had any experience with the VW upgraded
stereo system in the Golf? My bro has a mk5, and the stereo is
useless, so is the ?600 option worth it? Does it make it as good
as the stereo on the mkiv, or the A3?

Thanks in advance.

Daimianmkv, could you find the "mute" button on the MFD2? Sometimes I want to drive with the SatNav route guidance, but with no music. I can't find a way to mute the music but keep the SatNav working.

Eventually I found a "Radio OFF", but there is no "Pause" or "Stop" or "Mute" in CD player/changer mode.

MFD2 is providing a pretty good sound....

Why dont you just (not play) music when your using the sat nav?
The SAT-NAV CD is in the head unit. All the CDs are in the CD changer. The MFD2 does not offer a "STOP" or "PAUSE" or "Mute" on the CD screen, so there is no way to stop the music, unless I take out all the CDs from the changer (that makes no sense)

On the GTI options, the multi-function steering wheel does have a "mute" button, but this can only be s elected if you order GTI. I have a GT TDi, so I couldn't get it.

VW says I can't retro fit a multi-function steering wheel. [:'(] Why in UK we pay more but get less!? The electric driver seat adjustment is only available in left-hand driver version, not in UK version, the multi-function steering wheel is not available, DVD SatNav is not available, TMC disc is not supplied, should we all move to Germany? We do pay a lot to VW UK! [8o|]

I ordered this as an extra on mine, strange you cant get it in the UK...I have to say I'm a little disapointed with it, the volume and track s election and mute are all good but the phone buttons wont work unless u get a VW phone pack (crazy money for it). Also if I change the head unit I cant use the controls - there isnt an adaptor out there yet to link it to an after market head unit....I'm changing my headunit today and will contine to call autoleads about it.....no point missing out for good sound cause of 5 buttons!!

I've already got a set of 6.5 crystal components which sound very good, The Alpine amp that powers them (might change for a genesis) and the Diamond Audio Sub again powered by ALpine. Its just the HU, the one in the focus will go in..(don't laugh) my Escort Cabriolet, a ?260 ebay bargin. Which just leaves something like Pioneers all singing and dancing AVIC-X1 which has DVD & Sat nav for a bargin ?1150. If the MFD2 was as good as an aftermarket stereo I would spec it as it looks very nice [8-|]

So this is the reply I got:

Selecting radio off from the sound menu would probably do it, or s electing audio AUX from the menu with no AUX connected.

Dunno if it works or not

Thank you Damianmkv, it seems "Radio off" is the only solution. When I want to mute the CD, I have to first press "Radio", then "band", then "Radio Off". VW customer support is helpless, she said "if it isn't states on the manual, that means it can't do it!" I said to her "Why does VW need to hire you as customer support? They can put a voice recording to ask customer to read the manual!" She then promised to ask some one and will probably come back to me, or forget me forever. I started to miss my Merc now. [:(]
