Last sunday I noticed a picture in the local newspaper of a mk5 golf gti that had crashed. As fas as i could gather the drive who is a 21 year old guy and was driving too fast, started off by crashing into rear of a mercedes benz jeep and took the rear wheel of it, then hit a few more cars befour going of the road and finally coming to a stop in the backyard of a appartment building after rolling the car a bit.

I found some photos of the car where it came to a stop on a local website but since then the website has gone down. I did save the photos but I have no place to host them. if anyone out there wants to host them I'll be more then happy to send them over.

ps. starting price for a mk5 golf gti in Iceland is 37K Euros. That should be a very costly sunday drive for the driver.

pps. the driver was not hurt.

It would be interesting to see how the Golf fared so long as the driver was unhurt. Its got NCAP five stars I understand which is significantly better than say a Mk 2. The Top Gear crash test between a 97 Espace and a 2004 (5 star NCAP) Espace was a big eye-opener for me. If nobody saw it it was basically a 30mph front offset crash. They reckoned the driver of the 97 car would prob have died but the 04 car did not even have a cracked windscreen. In fact the airbag did not even deploy as the crash was not severe enough. The driver would have walked away uninjured.

I only wish people with plenty money and little driving skill had more consideration for other road users [V]

What a waste of a great car, I hope no-one was injured.

A lot of people might disagree with me but I don't think 21 year olds should be given 200bhp cars.

I was only 21 a little over 2 years ago and have done a lot of growing up driving wise and don't think I was responsible enough for 200bhp car if I had've been lucky enough to have one.

I agree with you Irish. When I was 21 the most powerful car I had driven was a 1.3 Hillman Avenger [:I]

Oh and congrats on growing up [)][:D]

If you want someone/somewhere to host your pics. try www.tinypic.com as they are one of many that will do it for you for nowt. Just upload them and ask for an email confirmation which will give you the necessary URL to place within the 'img' bracketing.

Any chance you could get some parts from it? I have family in Iceland so could pop up to collect [;)]

sorry for my late reply, I've been moving to a new apartment and I've been offline.

I'm sure the car will be fixed sooner of later. but contactin' the owner shouldn't be a problem for me.

That is such a shame [:(]

Colour coded bumpers as well!! Looks like a write off to me. I'd be interested in the seats if the car's being broken apart [:D]

Ive had 204BHP now since I was 21 and Ive never crashed it. Personally I don't think you can make a judgement based on age, there are F1 test drivers and touring car drivers under 20. However, a 'tiered' driving licence that required further training to drive more powerful cars might be interesting - prove your worth and all that.

Love the colour, a shame but at least nobody was hurt, and its not like he can't just walk into a dealer and buy another one exactly the same!

I pop up there 3 or 4 times a year visiting family - and a 'friend' who works in Casino in Keflavik (not a casino but strip club for those who havent been).

Well Mike the difference with you (probably) is...you're not a typical boy racer and you paid for your Bora with your own money I think.

At 21, he probably didn't buy that GTI for himself and the fact that he could make such a mess of it on a major road like that speaks volumes.
