MK5 Golf Boot Handle Mod onto MK4 Tailgate - The aRd OEM+ way

I have had numerous emails/ pm asking how to do this modification especially the wiring and fitting of the solenoid to control the latch

I thought its time I write a simple guide. I do not have the time to write a detailed guide.

I hold no responsibility for this modification at all, do it at your risk.

This modification will work like if it was done by VW themselves. I did the original wiring to work with a 3 button keyfob with panic button and switch hidden between the number plate lights back in 2002.

Parts as a guide:

Beetle latch : 1C0 827 511 C 01C
Solenoid Petrol flap: 3B0 959 782

Let begin with the CCM version in your Golf.

Easy way to identify which CCM version you have, split your key in half and the part no on the remote :-

it will begin with HLO 1J0 959 753 and there will be a letter at the end of it. That's the important part

HLO 1J0 959 753 A - CCM - 1J0 959 799 AH - no need to change the CCM - need a custom 3 button keyfob

HLO 1J0 959 753 N - CCM - 1J0 959 799 AH - no need to change the CCM - need a custom 3 button keyfob

HLO 1J0 959 753 AG - CCM - 1C0 959 799B - Golf you must use a Bora CCM part no 1C0 959 799B - can use HLO 1J0 959 753 AH 3 button key fob

HLO 1J0 959 753 AH - CCM - 1C0 959 799B - Golf you must use a Bora CCM part no 1C0 959 799B

-------

HLO IJO 959 753 A - All vw's from 1997 - 2000. HLO 1JO 959 753 N is usable and superceeds the older oval key used previously! (2 button)

HLO 1J0 959 753 AG - vw golf's only 2000-2004. HLO 1JO 959 753 CT now superceeds the older part number hlo 1jo 959 753 AG. (2 button)

HLO 1JO 959 753 AH - vw passat's/bora's generally. HLO IJO 959 753 DA superceeds the older AH. (3 button)

<2001 1J0 959 799AH - No need to replace. I can supply custom 3 button keyfob, but need a little bit of notice and a deposit as well. This only to help forum members, use my own time and need to source the parts
>2001 1C0 959 799B - Need to replace with the Bora version I can supply these , drop me a PM if you need one, only if you're serious. Please don't waste my time and i take a non refundable deposit. I've had to many timewasters and then I'm out of pocket.

The wiring for the 1J0 959 799AH

Need to purchase additional automotive relay, standard pin configuration. Similar VW one is number 53

CCM pin 13 needs to feed to standard automotive relay pin 86
Pin 85 and 87 standard automotive relay needs to fed from CCM pin 22 of 23
Pin 30 standard automotive relay need to feed to the solenoid in the tailgate, solenoid pin 1 and pin 2 of the solenoid is permanent negative (find one in tailgate wiring)

MK5 boot handle is micro switched. Pin 2 of this needs to be connected to permanent negative feed. Pin 1 of handle needs to be fed to CCM pin 21 of 23

The wiring for the 1C0 959 799B CCM

Need to purchase a Bora CCM, worse thing is the Bora ccm shares the same part no has the Golf version. The difference in the internal eeprom code.

There is no need for an additional relay like the 1J0 959 799AH CCM

CCM pin 18 of 23 is fed directly to the solenoid pin 1 and solenoid pin 2 is permanent negative

MK5 boot handle is micro switched. Pin 2 of this needs to be connected to permanent negative feed. Pin 1 of handle needs to be fed to CCM pin 2 of 23

diagram provided by Stan-the-man, thank you

Anyone want to add anything to this guide please let me know I'll add it in

Like to thank BlackMagic20vt for taking the pictures of the inside of my tailgate to share with others.

is there a way to wire it up without changing the CCM or any keyfobs?
Yes there is,search through my posts in the last couple of weeks with the words "latching relay" and you'll find the answer.

Connect your old central locking wires (green and blue) to the small
pins on the base of the relay, then your 12 volts in to one of the big
tabs on the side of the relay and the other tab to your microswitch. If
it's the wrong way round (switched on when armed or locked) simply swap
the blue and green wires over.
have i got this right then?

That would only work when the ignition is on,change the ignition live for a permanent live and you'll be in business. When the central locking switches the latching relay to it's off state it will isolate power to the microswitch and solenoid so the boot won't open.

gonna have to revise this thread as i can't remember what I'm doing. its been so long since my car went into the bodyshop I've forgotten. which wiring method will allow me to simply unlock the boot (not pop it open) and use the handle to physically open it?

any help appreciated. thanks

ok. so i picked up the following parts from vw this week

Beetle latch : 1C0 827 511 C 01C
Solenoid Petrol flap: 3B0 959 782

the solenoid part number has been superseeded to 1K5 959 782

only problem was the latch. the part number for that has changed as well and i wasnt sure it was the right part so i left it there. here's a pic of it.

Hi all, got conned into doing this mod for the girlfriend, how much would i be looking to spend on the internal wiring, ccm, solenoid and other internals.

I have a key code of HLO 1J0 959 753 AG, could somebody tell me what parts from the mk4 i need to keep what i need to chuck and the same from the mk5 donor tailgate.

also how much have you guys been spending to get the tailgate sprayed up to match as its going onto a solid black car and i think the local body shop is trying to rip us off at trying to charge us £912.93
