MK4 Golf SatNav system - how much and is it worth it?

Hi all,

Have been thinking of getting one of the built in sat nav units put into my 1.6, like the ones you get with an R32.

Are they easy enough to fit in?

Are they any good? Is it possible to keep the maps updated?

And lastly, how much is an acceptable price to pay for a 2nd hand good condition unit?

Thanks!

there are newer and better systems on the market that you can buy for that price that you can transfer to another car at a later date that have proper updated maps... look around there are loads of them ;) but if you really want the oem one it'll set you back at least 300 pounds and that is with everything that it needs except for the needed cabling from the back to the front that you will have to order from the dealer. .. making it very costly in the end so looking to an aftermarket one second hand is your best bet the likes of clarion/pioneer/sony/kenwood all have proper systems that do everything the oem headunit does and more

I didn't see Alpine in there but apart from that spot on, you will get far more for your money if you go after market and as long as your speakers are in good order you will get a benefit there also as they are usually a higher wattage.

Even products like the parrot MKI phone kit ranges nowadays sound better than the basic OEM equipment keeping the original feel but giving you hands free and a way of using your iphone usb or anything with a headphone socket or bluetooth. After that the phone is the satnav, music player or tv, the world is your oyster lol.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I wanted an R32 one as I hate things that look tacky, I want it to still look genuine and not out of place.

Still a little way away until I can afford anything but I was just thinking about it - cheers!
