I got my first chance to sit in the new mk 5 GTi. I noticed an extra button that I've not seen on lesser mk5's infront of the gear lever is the ESP disable button next to that is another button - what does this button do?

Its stability control.

(electronic stabilisation programme)

The sport and GT models also have it.

I think he meant the button next to the ESP button[:I]

Tyre monitering is the only one I have seen next to it, if memory serves me right you press the button and drive a preset distance (short of course) and the ABS measures the rolling radius of each wheel and lets you know if theres one out of its known spec in the dash multi-funcion display, if you read the handbook it will tell you anyways, its surprising what you will find out if you read it [;)]

If it's what I think you're refering to then it is the overspeed warning set button ie set it at 71MPH and the MFD goes bananas!
