Well I had
my cambelt changed with MidlandVW a couple of weeks back and I thought I would
post a review. Hope this is the right forum, although im surprised they don?t have
their own forum on here, as many other reputable garages seem to. Anyway on to
the review!

I booked my
car in by email, worth a mention as I would normally prefer to call and speak
to an actual person, however my initial point of contact was for a quote to see
if they could beat a previous one by Awesome GTI and without mentioning my
quote from Awesome they undercut it by ?89!!! And this was with Awesome
offering 10% discount at the moment. Seeing as MidlandVW are closer to me as well,
it was a no brainer that I booked in with them.

Whilst asking for a quote I asked them how much it would be
to fix my Centre Exhaust Mount which was broken and they said they would do
that for free [:)]

Because I work until 1.30pm everyday I also asked if I could
be booked in around an hour after that and wait while the work was being done,
as otherwise I would be car less and stuck in Cannock. Jody was fine with this
and said he would get a technician on it straight away so I wasn?t sitting
around forever, but did explain it wasn?t a short job.

So I got up there for about 2.40pm Friday the 8th
Dec and handed over the keys, Jody told me to take a seat and the waiting
started, they didn?t jump straight on it as expected, but they were mega busy
by the looks of it. I did ask one of the lads whether I could watch the work
being done on the car, as I did want to learn a bit and it would have been something
to pass the time. But he said no and pointed me in the direction of a sign on
the door stating no customers allowed to enter the workshop. I?m guessing it
was health and safety related. However he did turn the TV on for me which
helped pass the time. I noticed some people who went to the Rolling Road day,
the day after I got my cambelt done mentioning how cold it was, and yes, so was
I sitting in that office but at least the chairs were comfy.

Anyway so they must have finished by about 5.30 and I was
just about to sort out payment when I asked Jody if he had done my Centre Exhaust
Mount as promised. By this time my vehicle was already back on the floor and
Jody said ?No I didn?t mention it to the lad as I thought you were in a rush?
(which I did indicate in emails I wanted outta there ASAP being a Friday night)
however he turned it round and said give me 10mins and we?ll get it done. Back
up on the ramp it went and in no time at all I could see the guys through the
window fixing it as promised and the keys were back in my hand.

I have to say I was very pleased with the outcome. Many
garages expect you to leave your car there a whole day and don?t want you
waiting around. The price for the cambelt change, new tensioners, new water
pump with metal impellor and a free bit of work on that exhaust mount was
cheaper anywhere else and the car drivers spot on. The tech took it for a test
drive after the cambelt was done and I noticed he put a car seat cover over my
seat which sounds silly to mention but some garages have no respect and don?t!!

I would say their waiting area could do with a heater and a
bigger window for people to view through as it would have been a better
experience to see the work being done and a hot drink wouldn?t of gone a miss
for a 3 hour wait but what am I saying this isn?t a caf? [:D]

All in all a good service and price and would highly
recommend using them im glad they were suggest to me on here.

I will definitely use them again. I need my rear axle bushes
doing next, I think, which means I will be asking to wait around again if
possible. I just hope by the time I get around to affording this after Xmas the
weather is better and they get some hot blonde to work the desk, something to
look at [:D]

I recommended Damian to use Midland
as since we have used them we've had nothing but spot on service from Jackie
& Jody. The wife's bug's had quite a lot of work done there and even though
some of the jobs were complete pigs (fitting Forge turbo pipe) they have never
turned round and said it will cost any more than the quote, I cant fault there
work even when the wife caught her exhaust on a speed bump and panicked because
it was rattling she rushed up there and they had it on the ramp and fixed ASAP
they didn?t charge her a penny [:)]

I'll be taking my MK5 up there for some bits this year [:)]

I have got to say that Midland VW do take care of you. I managed to take off the steering wheel, unplug the airbag cable and set the horn off everytime i turned the wheel. Jody sorted it out without any fuss at all. Amazing service.

I need a 60k service and cambelt change on my AGU, and have been quoted ?520 all in as the cheapest quote so far in London. Do you think it would be worth my while booking in and driving to Midland VW... it's a long way?!?!?!

Help appreciated..... cheers boys and girls.

Same here they certainly look after your car.

I have had coilovers, rear arb, 312 brakes and service all carried out by Midland. All competitive prices and good service.

Got my cambelt in 10k and you know were its going!!!

Plus Jackie kept the cooffee coming on the RR day[Y]

I've always taken my car to the main VW dealer as they are literally round the corner from where I work in Telford. They said I needed a cambelt change, brake fluid change and air con service and the price they quoted seemed expensive. I tried Midland VW and their prices seemed good although they couldn't do the air con service as they didn't have the equipment.

They seemed to know their stuff and everything seemed fine with the car afterwards although it wasn't quite ready when they said it would be. I would definitely use them again but there's one huge problem - they are in Cannock, I live near Wolverhampton and work in Telford so when I got the cambelt changed I had to have a day off work and so did my missus to pick me up/drop me off. Taking it to Midland VW for this work saved me a lot of money so it was worth it but if they could offer a loan car - even something like an A-reg Polo (I'm not fussy) - then I'd be able to go to them more often.

Oh, and they gave me a hot cup of tea while I was waiting...

AFAIK, neither do VW - they sub-contract the work out and make a profit for doing nothing but a 'phone call!!. If this is right, then it's seems (to me) that MidlandVW are more honest than the dealers.

Just to add we have recentley updated our aircon service equipement and we're exploring the pro's and con's of offering a loan car for customers while we have their car in :)

Thanks

Jody
