Oh no, not another type-r thread[:p]

The driver must definitely have been pi55ing about or maybe it was a 1.6

As for the race from the lights, i'm sorry but there is no way the anni
would be a CTR, there heavier and -50bhp down, unless the driver was a pillock.

One of my best mates has a fairly new Type R along with a ram air kit on it.

Both of us have played on a *cough* private strip of road *cough* and although the Civic feels quicker it doesnt get away from my Golf. Thats right up to 3 figure numbers. And before you say "he cant drive" we have even swopped cars (he is one of the only blokes I would let thrash my car) we both said how supprising it was that we are so well matched even though mine only has 180BHP and is heavier, and his has 210BHP and is built light.

Civic on paper SHOULD be much quicker then my anni - but in practise its not! And Im only going on my own personal "tests".....

Oh well people what ever it was he must of been a puffter driver to not pull away from me any quicker, and he was revving like mad so it either was a 1.6 or a guy who can't drive to save his life.

LOL, one more time - CTR's aren't slow[:p]

It would be good if at the Mega meets etc, we could have a few tests between a CTR and standard or chipped TDI's, both with just the driver, same amount of fuel blah, blah, blah, then maybe we can put this debate to rest for a while[;)][;)]

I used to have standard pd115 and my experience with Type-R is this...

I have surprised them for about 3secs (LOL!) at motorway speeds because of the bigger torque 210 compared to145 in the Civic and thats the only satisfaction I got from it! The moment those drivers know I'm pulling away or still on it's rears they just change down (even twice) and bang they're off. No chance. Truely impressive N/A engine. In your case Sonny, it might of been a 3dr Type S (110 bhp/110 lb ft) or 2.0 iVtec Type S 5dr (160/132)

The replies on this site do make me laugh - bet half the people haven't even been in a Type R to compare. I've got 3 mates with them - all dissappointed.  I drove a friends up in Newcastle and felt very sporty but a golf performance would be very similar around town.  On the track it would kick our asses!

I've just come across this thread & thought I'd share my experience with one

I also have a 323i convertible (170bhp 325 engine) & I was out one morning when a Type R pulled up alongside me. I'm not one for traffic light grand prix's so I thought nothing of it at first. When the lights changed, we pulled away together & I could this type R revving very high like he was killing it. I decided to put my foot down out of curiosity & the type R driver must have done the same. This thing was now screaming it's head off & I was going for it, but not wringing it's neck. He didnt pull away from me at all- we were side by side.We then ran out of road & parted company. If this Type R was a copy, it was a good one. It had the brake calipers with Type R on, the recaro seats, the big exhaust etc etc. I think if I had really given my BMW some real right foot & redlined it, it would have had the edge. Not saying it would have left it for dust, but I would have not been left behind.

I don't think it says 200bhp in the CTR sales catalogue, cos my mate at work has just bought a brand new black one & he left the catalogue lying around. i'll ask him to take me out in it & boot it- we'll see exactly how fast it is then.

I've always got my Ducati to fall back on in a race!!

I have had loads of races against type r's  when I had the R32  which I thought was quick, and to be honest I did struggle a little bit with them but once you hit 3 figures they seem to start slowing while the    R32 didnt, they are absolutely shi* on road holding especially in the wet, I have had the pleasure of driving a type r  and I think most golfs would struggle apart from the obvious heavily modded ones, but in all fairness a heavily modded "saxo" should do well against a standard vw,havnt had the pleasure of a race in my 4motion with a type r, but I am a little bit dubious of the outcome anyway. they sound nice aswell once the vtek kicks in,  but love the vw's its not all about speed imo..
