Was coming back yesterday from my friends house with my brother in the
car, we was on the way home then my brother goes to me ooooh look at
that type R there, and this was the first type R i'd ever seen that was
bombing about, so I decided to catch up with him I had to accelerate to
80ish just to get on his rear bumper, we both pulled up side by side
when the lights turned green i though nah theres no point me even
trying to race it so i accelerated off up to about 20mph keeping a
steady head on head with the civic then all of a sudden i hear the
v-tech kick in and then i planted my foot down in 2nd and kept on his
tail all the way up to triple figures which only then he pulled away
from me by 2 and a half car lengths but i have to admit i was flooring
the living poo poo out of my car and the guy who was driving the civic
had three people in his car inc himself.

I thought the civic type R's were meant to be quick [:p], personally i
don't think the guy could drive it properly as my cars standard and
only got the everymod mod done to it (resistor mod). So how did I keep
up with it?? also last night the car was flying due to it being cool
outside.

+ several gear changes by yourself inbetween, one would assume?[:O]

The guy was having a laugh by the sounds of it. Probably nothing on the radio so thought he would entertain his mates and keep you tagging along.

That's not the resistor 'mod' from fleabay for a tenner is it?[^o)]

really around corners???

I know the Civic isn't the best handlling (slated for no steering feel and over stiff suspension in the car press) car but its miles ahead than a Golf.. Its also a very light car - especally when compared to a diesel engined car.

yer had a type r chasing me round contry lanes and its rear end was kicking out all over the place and droping back from me

but then i do have 4mo [;)]
Sounds like he couldn't drive, or prehaps had to keep backing off because you were holding him up. The back end coming out sounds like lift off oversteer, he'd have been running wide if pushing beyond it's limits.

that reminds me, yesturday on my way back from oxford i was coming home and got caught at some lights, i noticed that a type R pulled up next to me, real noisy exhaust, blacked out windows and a few stickers all over it.
i was travelling with friends in the car (3 plus me) so didn't really want to race but lights go orange and revs start i wait till green and plant it we go neck and neck upto about 80mph and i have to slow down due to traffic

i'm well happy, loaded car against type r.

I've only once taken my Golf down some twisty roads and nearly scared myself silly!!!

The Type R chassis was tuned on Nuerburgring in Germany (I remember seeing the early spy shots in Aut*Car), where exactly was the Mk4 GTi chassis set up?? A Tesco carpark?? [:p]

...No but seriously anyone know??

like you say he may be holding back or didnt have the nuts to overtake

80 - 90 round country lanes i would say didnt have the nuts to overtake

at the end of the day its not how the car handles so much or how fast the dealers say they go ,

its how the driver handles the car

and wether the driver of Any car uses the power they have [;)]

Oh well people what ever it was he must of been a puffter driver to not pull away from me any quicker, and he was revving like mad so it either was a 1.6 or a guy who can't drive to save his life.
Was it damp?? Type-R has no traction control. It is a complete beast to put the power down if there is any water around. Would explain why he was reving the life out of it!!!!!!!!!

I never found it a problem, I don't like traction control it's usually too intrusive, rather use my right foot instead. Not a problem in my Octavia though.
