Hi im looking to buy a 1.8t and am thinking whether to get a lower mileage older (99) one, or a higher mileage newer (02/03) one, due to cost.

Are there any differences between the 99 model and 02/03 models? if so what are they and which would you go for?

Thanks Aidan

Think the biggest difference will be the 99 will have throttle cable and the 02/03 will be fly by wire and poss 180BHP not 150. Personaly i would go for the newer car as long as it has a good detailed history

the main difference between this models is as stated above the Throttle cable, on the newer models it is DBW.

another big difference is the actual engine, the earlier AGU has better(stronger) internals for taking higher power but only the K03 turbo - will see 190ish with a remap. The newer AUM, AUQ has the KO3s turbo but the slightly weaker internals, will see roughly 210bhp with a remap.

do a search on the forum mate, there is LOADS of info, this gets asked once a day pretty much.

K03S Turbo came on 2001-present gti's these remap better then pre 2001 gti's which have just a K03 turbo.

A non k03s car will map to 190ish bhp and a k03s car can map to anything between 215-230bhp.
