Hi all, been looking all over the web about this but cant find a good answer.
Basically my box is on its way to the grave and I want to know if the lupo gti box is a straight fit to the 1.6 golf engine? With it been a 6 speed box it should eliminate the problem with the standard 1.6 box, as when doing 70/80mph the car revs at around 4000 and that is really annoying for fuel consumption as im always on the motorway.
Any help is appreciated

Its not a straight swap, it needs a custom gearbox mount, cable gear linkage instead of rod, and some of the wiring changing due to the sensors being different. The distances of the gearbox cups from the engine/gearbox mounting point is also different, although the play in the driveshaft CVs should accomodate this, you may end up with CV binding and needing to get the dirveshafts shortened / lengthened anyway.

The 6 speed lupo box against the 5 speed is virtually no different top end ratios, the difference is getting through the box so the 6 speed feels nippier. However putting a lupo box on a golf will help top end due to the fact the rolling radius of the golfs tyres are bigger than the lupos, and hence you will get a nicer cruising speed.

Its a lot of effort unless you really need it.
