... is there a lead with a jack on one end that can connect to the cars iso block for the speakers or even from an amp?

i ask as i have sold my old headunit and my new one may take some time, so am wondering if i can use my ipod directly through the car speakers via a cheapish cable?

Your i-Pod has about as much audio output as an asthmatic ant,so no it can't drive speakers directly. You could use a headphone jack to RCA lead to plug it into an amp though.

Your cheapest hassle free option would be a fm transmitter or even a cassete tape to 3.5 jack (if you use this option turn your iPhone vol to half way before you crank up the speakers for best audio quality), there are several other items on the Market such as blogpost hands free kits that plug in to the iso block and will let you stream your music but there around ?50+ if you google connects2 they do iPod addapters but there pricey too
