I repair laptops and always have a few about so I'm thinking of chopping one up for a car pc. My reasoning is the laptop would have a battery backup allowing the pc to keep running without power from the car. Its easy to wire in the 12v from the ignition. Touch screens are pretty cheap. laptops are small and easily hidden. i already have a bluetooth gps receiver so navigation wouldnt be a problem. I may even extend the screen cable for a centre mounted rear screen for dvd etc.

Anyone tried it?

Just a thought but might be a good idea to use solid state drive instead of your normal hard drive, normal hard drives don't like vibration or shock. Solid state drives are quite affordable now anyway plus solid state drives use alot less power than your normal hard drives - less than 10% actually, so your battery will definately be happy. Might be worth a go
