Placed my order an hour ago, pick up on Saturday[8D]

Went for Tornado Red with Leather. Was going to go for cloth & 18's, but Trade advised against Cloth. Suprised how many cars are out there still for immediate delivery.

Will have to try and make the Buck meet[:D]

There are a lot of cars out there. Sidlow, Citygate, Chiswick etc all have cars. What they do miss is the little extras such as winter pack etc. The majority of cars left are 5 Door, Leather and 6 CD (every car seems to have this). Most dealers got one extra car. There are a number of 3 Door, 18" with cloth in Silver out there.

Think this will change pretty soon though. VW seem to be sticking to the 5-6000 GTI's this year, which is low - Mazda did 6000 RX-8's and that is a much more niche car.

Congrats on your new car. Please post a review & pics when you get it.

May I ask who "Trade" is? I don't think there would be any problem in the future with the cloth seats. They look great in the flesh.

My classification of trade is dealers. Spoke to a few about it. I personally dont think cloth is bad, didnt think that on the R32 either, but it seems certain cars need leather, or at least leather/alcantara. Think the GTI is slowly going along this road.

I think the classic cloth is really nice (better in the flesh than pics) but leather is really classy looking. I was very wary of this when I considered buying a car this expensive. The leather just kinda helps make it look more grown up and better quality. For that GTI nostalgia factor, go for cloth (im too young to remember the original GTi - just looks like a polo to me) - flames at the ready!

Hey milkfloat - when did you order your GTI? How come they are making you wait so long? I ordered a week ago and they estimated march/april. I dont know if i can wait till june

I was originally told Early to Mid March when I ordered on 11th Jan. However I called VW yesterday and was given a Week 18 build.

Call me a cynic but it is in the dealer's interest to convince you that a ?1645 option is a requirement [:O]

Nothing wrong with choosing leather of course if you want it but get what you want not what the dealer talks you into. [;)]

This is not directed to you Jonathan but a general comment about dealers [:)]

I love the cloth on the MKV GTi and hopefully so do other true enthusiasts. Just like the stuff in my MKII.

If you are buying it to keep it then stuff resale value. One of the things that impressed me most about the anniversary were the retro touches like the black headlining and Golf ball gear knob, shame it doesn't drive a bit more like the MKII though.

Hope you enjoy your new GTI as much as I do my MKII.

I spoke to a few dealers, the one to monitor is how many people are buying the car with Leather. My local dealer who knew they couldnt help me have not sold one without it[:O] It was the same story at a few others. Cloth will be exclusive then[:D] I'm always sceptical about dealers. Also interesting to note that Sat Nav appears to have a highish uptake, although dealers didnt think that would do well come resale - and that wasnt due to them only having cars without.

I ordered on 16th and was told March, I'm not keen on waiting til June esp as i turned down a discount at Virgin Cars because of the long wait.

What's your spec - lots of extras?

Chin - Where in Bucks did you order that has some ready for delivery?

my dealer has said that no-one has bought cloth so far, if leather was not availible i would have been happy with cloth, as it looks ok, however most people will expect leather come selling, certainly i wouldn't buy a second hand one without leather as more will have leather than will not, in that respect i would have thought you will not get any more re-sale for having leather atall, it will become the normal spec, and cloth will be the item people will try to knock you down over or not buy atall.
