And what a difference it has made.. [] i don't know if its me imagining it but the car feels like its pullin stronger now.. is this normally the case when changing your cambelt?? Also i took the risk of leaving the cambelt till 66 thousand miles [] i know 6 thousand more than reccomended.. my dads mates garage said i was lucky as if i never had changed it now it would of snapped in about 500 odd miles as there were loadsa cracks on there.. and as one of my dads friends were doing it... he said dont worry i ain't gonna charge you for labour.. but all in all it ended up costing £110 [:D] for a cambelt/tensioners/waterpump change and a general service inc all filters.. so one happy chap here.

£110? That's a bloody bargain! I've just forked out £250 for cambelt and waterpump from a VW specialist. My mates Golf cambelt wasn't changed until 80,000 miles, but I've heard that they can last up to a maximum of 100,000 miles but I wouldn't want to try and find out. [:|]

I had mine done about 2 weeks back, about 90 miles short of 60k, cars feels a LITTLE bit more responsive but nothing majorly noticeable, cost me over £400 for a 60k service and a cambelt/waterpump change for a stealer...

hmm i dunno why my car fealt quite a bit more responsive? could it be due to the oil not being changed for 20k [] as i dont think it has been changed since we baught the car about 2 yrs ago now... and yeah i got the job done very very cheap as basicallly my dads a doc and hes helped this one lad out in his health.. and the lads a mechanic so a favour for a favour in essence.. [:D] either way i got a bargain haha..

It's probably utter nonsense but I always think the oil gets gloopy and stops the turbo spooling up as quick.

Like I say, it's utter nonsense as I change my oil every 5k but afterwards things do seem to feel better.

The oil was quite thick though and was black lol.. but most diesel oil is black in derv engines... maybe its the mind playing games..but the cambelt has stopped some vibration as there was a slight vibration before in the engine bay... either way im happy as its not cost me that much and now feels much better.[y]

My PD gets is 9k "annual" service on the dot, but at the mileage I've been known to get thro sometimes, this service gets done every 6 or 7 months. I get a good performance increase after an oil change and economy on long jounts goes back up as well... I wouldn't want to have a car that works on a "long-life" service regime, I personally don't think its good to have the same oil pumping around for all that time!

maybe thats why my car feels more responsive... also the guy said whenever you want an oil change and oil filter change il just charge you 25 quid for supplied and fitted(free labour) . bargain again.. so may start getting this done every 6 moths as i do around 1000miles a month..

Thanks for the info.

Cool, wish I could get my oil change for that! My oil, being the posh stuff required for PD engines is about £30-35 alone!!
Thats cheap, where do you get it for that price or is that per bottle?

You can get the VW / Quantum stuff from GSF (German Swedish & French) for that or slightly less.

Right, I just dug out my last 2 service bills, I was a bit conservative with the price, £37.50 from Helston Garages (far western Cornwall) and £42.10 from Wayside St Albans (north London). Looking back thro the service receipts, Lookers in Burnley (Lancashire) Charged £31.28. This was a few years ago but it does seem to show that simple things like oil vary in cost quite a bit depending on where in the country you buy it.

A TDI always responds well to a service, my A4 Avant TDI PD gets and oil & filter change every 6 months (do it myself) and my mate does the annual service (as he's a VW/Audi specialist so he can stamp the service book).

The PD oil is expensive but I get it a trade which is always a good thing! [;)]

I was under the impression that the cambelt change was at 120,000 miles but VW waterpumps where not very stronge and the plastic propelers break meaning it had to be reduce to 60,000. I am 8,000 miles over 60,000 and i am not worried about it at all.

I am getting my belt done within the next month though for £220 which i was well pleased with.

Next time you have a water pump changed I suggest you go for the ones with the metal impellers, not sure if VW sell them, I know Euro Car Parts do.
