Just a thought...Trip computer

Just thinking to myself, does anybody have any knowledge of fitting dials with a trip computer to a golf that didnt have a trip computer. I assume I would obviously need the clocks, and ccm? anything else? Would it just be a straight swap for the clocks, pop them in then drive away?
