Here's some pictures of the MK5 GTi I saw today whilst at the Top Gear test track. Top Gear were filming a test drive of the car for the new series, and my standard MK4 GTi was being used as part of the filming, as there was also a MK1, a MK2 and a MK3 used alongside mine.

First impressions of the car were very good. It looks very beefy in the flesh and stands out well. Jeremy Clarkson also gives it the thumbs up and says he wouldn't hesitate in buying one, but I'm not sure if he is or not???

Did ask Jeremy if he take me for a spin in it, but he couldn't for insurance reasons. [:(!]

There isn't really anything new in these pictures, but it gives you a feel of how close I got to the car, etc.

I thought the seats were cool, very retro.[:D]

Yeah I suppose they do look quite retro. Not sure if I could live with them though, will wait and see what they look like in the flesh.

Did Clarkson seem alright or a complete tw*t like he comes across as on the telly [:O][:D]

i went a long with Bobski to the Top Gear Studio and while they were doing the filming with the earlier Golfs driving about Clarkson was not needed so he was sat in the production office where i was. Spent ages talking to him about cars, rugby, life in general and he really is ok. He is opinionated but I think thats a good think - he went right up in my estimation

On another note I wish I had maybe not gone now - after seeing the MK5 GTI in the flesh, sat in it, watched it whizz round the track and Clarksons opinion of 'Buy it' I really want one - now, if I can just get funds to stretch!!

Yeah, Clarkson seemed okay. He was friendly, down to earth and talked freely.

He didn't have anything bad to say about the MK5 GTi at all. He said it was back to feeling like the original MK1 GTi, but as expected, he got in a few jibes about my MK4. When he first come into the production office, he looked out the window and said, "Whose is the MK4?". I replied to say it was mine and he said, "You must have had to set off early this morning then!"

The disappointing thing is that when you see me and my car on the screen Clarkson will most probably be saying how bad it is!

Just registered .... :)

Looks nice from the front, wheels look good as 17" and I love the seats.

The last 3/4 view from the back just looks bland :( .. needs some nice colour coded skirts (side and rear) and a reduction in price by about 2K before I'd part with some cash though, looks well made and VW have made an effort compared to MkIV. The Anni MkIV is better looking.
