Well, despite all my best intentions, I've changed my GTI order over to an R32... after having one for the day I was sold on it. I still prefer the look of the GTI, but to drive, the R32 wins for me. I love the wheels, the interior (expecially the dash), the grille looks fine on the silver car I'm getting and the exhausts, well, you get used to that. It's a manual 3 door in reflex silver, recaros (fabric), rear tinted windows, sat nav, winter pack. ?27,335. Delivery is April, deposit paid today. I got it from Vindis in St Ives, last of their allocation, all sold now I think... well, so they say!

Good choice - too many people are being critical of the Mark 5 r32 - and its good to hear that somebody else on here has ordered - I ordered mine about 4 months ago, finalised all the options 2 weeks ago.

I too am going for the cloth recaros, highline computer, winter pack, and lux pack and arm rest- i have decided to stay clear of the sound pack so i can upgrade once i have the car

Jeremy Clarkson seems to agree that the new R32 is fairly decent by giving it 5 out of 5 - his review more than justifies my decision to order months ago.

Is that full price? Did you even talk discounts and was the response if you did?

It doesn't look too bad in silver, definitely the best colour.

Having driven one at the weekend I can see why you have ordered one. I too prefer the looks of the GTi but the instrument cluster is a hole lot better looking and, for obvious reasons, the car just feels so much more planted on the road.

Great choice of colour and spec too! Actually, i'm getting quite jealous now!! [:p]

I originally thought it a bit plain, but I saw a deep blue MK5 R32 in Bournemouth
yesterday and it literally turned my head - it really does look very
good and I love the VW VR6s - nice package. But ?27,000? Ouch!

Well done Mark, is this the final decision?  Do you need to go 50-50, phone a friend or ask the audience?  You need to tell the dealer to not answer your calls anymore and to accept this decision as final.  Got a build date yet?

I've not got a build date yet and I too will probably add the speaker upgrade once the car is at the dealer - when ever that might be. I still wish it looked like the GTI, but like it I do. Silver was the only colour choice for me - I really wanted red, but the grille stood out too much for me to be able to risk it. I did not go for leather as it just made the whole thing too expensive - I think the recaros were a must though, as was Sat Nav - for me anyway. I couldn't get a penny discount on any of it - they claim that they've sold all their R32 allocation and demand will outstrip supply? I doubt it, as I think this R32 appeals to different people than the first one and even the GTI. I could afford either, so I went for the R32 as it offered me more of what I wanted. I like the fact that it's sedate in styling and I do a lot of motorway driving, so it suits me there too. I still can't believe how many times I changed my mind on this car, but now they've had my ?500 deposit today, well, I'm a happy bunny that I made the right choice. The review and pictures in this months EVO swung it a bit more for me as well - then when I got to drive an R32 for a while on my own... seriously, to drive, this is one very nice car. Will let you all know what the build date / estimate is from Vindis when they decide to call me back with it!

Yeah, ouch and then some! ?27,335 plus GAP I suppose and then a boot liner, speaker upgrade... still, I got a good price on my TT trade in, so it did not cost too much in the end.

Sounds great.  Should be some car.   I think you're right about the grill - it'll stand out too much with some colours and might look a bit cheap - the same on the Passat - looks best with silver or grey.

You can upgrade the front and rear speakers... it's a Dealer fit option. Prices are quoted in the Golf accessories brochure. I'll see what the sound is like from the standard speakers when I get the car and may well have the Delaer upgrade the speakers if I feel it's worth doing. I have BOSE speakers and amps on my current car and the sound is great - very clear and doesn't distort, even at very high volume. I want to retain that level of quality, so will probably get Vindis VW to fit the upgrade once my R32 comes in.

Tell me more... I listened (very briefly) to a CD on the sat nav of a GTI and it sounded OK. Maybe then the speakers will need upgrading?

The dealer put me off of the upgrade speakers, they have to remove all the pannels and drill the speakers out.

if you are bothered about scratched pannels and other damage he said dont get them fitted!

i am realy fussy about cars so i didnt bother.

that was Specialist cars in Aberdeen

This is the point - it sounds OK. Bose on an Audi sounds fantastic, just going the dealer upgrade speakers route will not bring the sound up to this level of quality.

Thanks - I'll see what it's like, if it's not good enough I'll get Audiophile in B'Stortford, Herts to sort it out for me with some upgraded speakers and maybe an amp or two. Probably be cheaper than what VW want for the speakers!

I would go this route without any reference to VW if I wanted to improve my sound. A good specialist will always be better than a main dealers efforts in the sound dept.
