Had a little accident today.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Misses got out the car, shut the door and the window dropped. It would only move up about an inch before getting stuck.

After shouting at the misses, I took it to the stealers DANE's in Chester straight away, as I have no garage to keep it in and did not like the look of the weather.

A polite girl behind the desk had already spoken to me that day, regarding my heated seat not working, as that had also stopped working on friday. My car is mint, no probs what so ever until this weekend when all hell broke loose.

She said that the work may be covered, as long as my mileage did not exceed 93k and it was less that 7 or 8 years old. That includes the regulator as well.

So, they are going to have a look at it monday, and phone me if it is not covered. Also they are going to have a look at the seat and do a diagnostic on it. I did swap the switches over but no joy. Any suggestions or feedback to this post is greatly appreciated.

(Please don't phone dane in chester incase you jinx my window being fixed for free)

I will let you all know how I get on, that is if you want me to?

P.S Dane kindly parked my car inside the garage, with a heater blowing warm air around it!!!! Not bad hey, free storage.

Quite common for windows to drop on VW's apparently. Mine dropped recently... thought it had something to do with the tints but it had no relation to them.

My car has had the VW garage doing all the services bar the last two, which were done by a vw specialist (not a retailer).

Do you think this would matter?

Also, any advice on the heated seat problem?

Thanks in advance!!!!

my heated seat is also not working. (good time of year to happen ay!)

anyways i swaped my switches over, likewise no joy [:(] so its either the wiring loom or the heating element. more than likely the 2nd option. seats run off same fuse so if one is ok then its not the fuse.

my rear window made a nasty snap noise in the summer. have not touched it since. car is over 6years + not all vw sh

Depends how the tints were done.

If the glass was taken out then the clips would have had to have been undone, this could have cracked them. Only saying this as when I took my glass out to tint it the old plastic clips broke and I had to replace them with the newer aluminium ones on both sides.

Might be worth doing the other window on yours just in case, if it hasn't already been done.

Repair kits are only ?31 a side from VW. They take an hour to do each side if you've done them before, hour and a half if you haven't

If the labour is ?50/hr then you could easily get a bill for ?200.

Not too bad to do yourself if you're handy with the tools, just follow the guide on VWVortex

Cheers Guys,

I think I might have to do the heated seat myself, Dane quoted ?370.00 worst case.

The pads cost ?41.50, & since I think I only need the base, I might have to have a go myself.

Also, if they do not cover the window, I might be busy this coming weekend.

P.S I spoke to VW UK on Sat morning before the window problem. I complained about the seat and how it burnt me before it failed. They require a diagnosis from Dane in Chester, who will forward it on to them.

I will let you know how I get on.

Hi guys,

Dane did the window for FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, VW UK will contact them this week, possibly with a small amount off. If not, I will have to bite the bullet and get the misses to pay for it.

She is on treble the wage i'm on, and owns one of those crappy z4's. (Mine is quicker!!!)

Will let you know what happens.....................

Just to let you all know, vw uk don't want to know about my problem with the seat.

They would of if I had done all my servicing at a retailer (?150 dearer than anywhere else !!!)

Instead silly me, I had taken it to a VW specialist.

Plus, Dane tech's said I needed to replace both heater elements, even though the back is ok, its just the base thats failed????

Anyway, VW in Abergele have told me they can do the work for ?200 approx, instead of Vw Dane's ?332.

Cheers for the help anyway guys.

When my drivers seat went and burned me VW were not interested either. When i threatened to sue them as it could have caused an accident as well as personal injury they finally paid half, so cost me i think about ?160. My dealer did a great job and you cannot tell the seat was ever touched!

Interesting about the window though, i have not had any issues with mine yet and am on 86K. I was going to get the next service done by specialist but think that it may be worth having it done VW as the rest have been up to 100k? Would you guys agree?

Hi guys,

just had a quote from Vw abergele, all in ?212.00. I've also had a check from HM revenues, paid to much tax last year. Got ?160.00 from that, so almost there really, as VW Uk did not want to know at all.

Anyone recommend a good place to go to get the seat fixed, don't want to attempt it with the airbag. Anywhere close to N.Wales?

Cheers.
