Is my door open or shut ?

Got a 1992 LHD Bora.

Some months ago, came home and locked the car with the blipper thing. Walked into the house and about 5mins. later, the alarm went off. Unlocked the door, opened it, shut it and locked it with the blipper. Ok !!

Unlocked it in the morning, drove down the road and the "door open" warning light came on. Couple of opening and shutting of the driver's door, stopped the warning message.

This scenario went on for a month or so and eventually both of these things stopped.

At first, I did not notice that the door's red light/downlight and interior courtesy light had stopped working and this continues to date.

In addition, the passenger's window "one touch" up/down from the driver's door, does not function all of the time.

I would mention that I've a water coming in problem, which results in the driver's carpet and rear passenger's carpets getting sodden, but only during the winter months, when it rains. First noticed this about 2 years ago after the windscreen was replaced, but thought it was the kids mucking about with water bottles.

What is going on???

Door lock modules and inner door carrier seals.

:)
Be careful - if the car doesn't know the door has opened then it will lock itself 30 seconds or so after unlocking unless you turn the ignition on. Not a problem until you are working on the car and you unlock the car, open the driver's door, chuck the key on the front seat then close the door. Then it locks. Then you really hope you have a spare key.

The lock modules can be repaired - it's not normally the micro switches themselves that stop working, it's dry joints on the PCB or the micro switches not being activated by the mechanism due to wear. VAG COM/VCDS is really useful for troubleshooting.

1992 Bora?

Are we talking the thing near the apparent door lock, which is attached to the card ??

When I had the windscreen replaced, it was because of hail damage, which also pebble-dashed the roof. In repairing the roof, the guys pulled down the lining and the seals around the door. Are we talking the same thing, as it was an insurance job, so the local garage will have to foot the bill.

1992 Bora?
Agree with the logic, but why does it think the door is open or shut?

Are we talking about the thing near to the door lock, attached to the card ? Had a go at following the link, which was for a Passat, but it did not say that you should not move any of the internals. I did and ended up replacing the unit.

I know the mark IV's are notorious for door electrical problems, but is anything of my problems caused ny the water ingress ???

Yup, it is a 1992 LHD Bora ESTATE. Never imported into the UK.
Post a pick of ur car was hoping someone was going to ? 1992
Behind the door card and window mech there is a door lock unit which has a micro switch in there needs to be replaced easyer to replace the door lock mech

Door lock module seems to be the answer.
It is a 1992 Bora ESTATE. Never imported into the UK. Came with many extras as std.
Can't post a pic as my camera will not talk to my steam-powered computer.
Forgot to mention, the wipers are now on intermittant go-slow, no matter the wiper stalk position..
Thanks for reply.

Forgot to mention, recently the wipers have decide to go on a intermittant go-slow, regardless of the wiper stalk demand.

Wiper mech seized. Search for my Diy for the mk4.

As I said, works one day and the next mot. Will give it a go.
Thanks,
Certainly worth examining the mech, other than that could be the relay :)
Can we just be sure here - you say it's a 1992 but the Bora wasn't released until 1999. Even the Mk4 Golf on which it's based wasn't around until 1997/1998. If your car really is a 1992 model then it's not a Bora in the sense we think of a Bora here - That year would make it between Mk2 and Mk3 Jetta which is a completely different car and so our advice would be wrong.

Can you post the first 11 digits of your VIN/chassis number?
