or does the R32 MkIV look like max power converted car, i mean it looks like it should be supplied with burberry seats and free baseball caps, hopefully the MKV will be a little more subtle. Or am i wrong and does the gti look under stated and the burberry wagon is the way to go, big skirts and spoilers ?

So let me get this right? The MKIV (4) R32 looks like a Max Power wagon?

And you haven't seen the new MKV (5) R32 yet?

I think the R32 was/is one of the best looking sporty golfs ever, the only thing that could lead to the 'chav' comparison is the sad fact that it can be copied therefore losing its exclusivity. When they first came out I literally drooled over them and if honest still do even considered getting one when looking at the new GTi but was put off by mpg, seems you're on your own with this one but we are all entitled to our opinions [;)]

Again, no vote from me, sorry dude! I love the way the mk4 one looks... And as ol' Tabs said, you sure you've got it the right way round?? [;)]
maybe both will be chav-tastic, not sure, i do like the seats in the R32, the headlining in burberry is a bit much though ![;)]

No it's not just you - whilst I appreciate the V6 and 4wd, personally I think with the bumpers and skirts it looks dumpy.

And I must say as I've never driven one, it's only an impression, but I think is that it'd be a nose heavy lardy thing even with the 4wd. I've always said the sporty golf should have been an agile 1.8T 4Motion type car, and leave the 6s to Audi.

...put flame proof suit on and hides for 2 weeks....!

The Mkiv version was and still is a good looking car and it was way better and faster than the nearest Mkiv model (standard anyhow).

The Mkv looks pretty ropey at the front, the air intakes don't have the same impact as the Mkiv, I think it looks a bit wimpy and the venetian blind install does it no favours. Performance wise it's only marginally quicker than the GTI and will be a lot less economical, bar 4WD it's hard to see what the attraction will be, it's difficult to imagine it will be any where near as popular as the original.

We've gotten too used to conservative styling in VW.  I mean, the mk3 GTi/VR6 rolled around on 15" rims when equivalent other brands were on 17s, MkIVs had 17s when others.....so on.  I think the R32 has the styling to match the current mould of performance cars - I'm all in favour of it.  I think the mkV GTi is too subtle.
