Installing another button next to the asr button

3607 Views 19 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  vwgtiking
i have bought another button which i will use as a switch for something electrical. I have bought another ASR button but can i replace top asr bit with a blank with the switch still operable?

Also, any tips on wiring it up ie to light up with lights etc?

The connector on the back of it is PROBABLY polarised so you can only plug an ASR plug into it,so you will probably also need to get it with a length of wire attached. If this is the case they will be colour coded with brown as ground and grey/blue for illumination.

Chris.
what pins on the asr button is the in and out for the switch?

I don't know, that's why you need the correct connector and loom.

Chris.

You haven't been paying attentioin in class have you[:p]? Two of the wires are the same colour you used for your boost gauge thingummy and are used all over the inside of the car so will have the same function here.

That only leaves two which must be the switch wires, you tell me which ones you think it is and I'll tell you if you're right or not[:D].

Chris.
lol, black and grey/black are the switch?

[clap]

So what are the brown and grey/blue for?

Chris.
ground and illumination?
[clap][clap] You didn't really need me after all did you?

Now how do you wire it up to light up just when the button is pressed?

Chris.
i was planning on using the igintion live wire as the switch.
The black wire is ignition in anyway but what are you wanting to control with it?

Chris.
at the moment my boost gauge comes on when the ignition is turned BUT i dont always want the boost gauge on.. and when i do want it on then i turn it on once the ignition or engine is running.
thinking about it not sure if the asr button will do the job as it differs to the rear demister one with regards to turning it on and off, it doesnt click.

Aaaaahhhh....it doesn't latch [doh].In which case you need one of these......

Chris.
Use that instead of the asr button? May pop to scrappy for demister button. As that one is ?25!
No I meant use that to turn a non latching button into a latcher,Alternatively keep it for something you need a momentary contact switch for and get a heated screen button for this[8-|][].

Chris.
Chris - does that Durite relay stay latched until you "unlatch" it , or does it unlatch everytime you turn off ignition?
I haven't actually used one Graeme, but it should be an electrically activated mechanical latch[:S].So one pulse will take it to one state where it will stay until another pulse takes it back to it's first state, irrespective of whether it's got power on it or not.

Chris.
ok, i got myself the rear demister button today for £5, am guessing the white and white/yellow wires are the switch. Am not wiring the others as i have remove the top part of the button and installed a blank.
