I'm more than happy with the power in my modest 115PD, however, I'm sure I'd be even happier if it was chipped/remapped!

The first name I hear when talking to anyone about tuning is Superchips. After looking at their website, I found there is a dealer very near to me - I called them last week, the fella seemed very knowledgeable and said that they usually make changes to the remap to tailor it to the car n- Can this be done? I thought Superchips was just a plug&play job (like Revo).

Has anyone had their 1.9 TDI Superchipped?

Yep they won't edit the map but they can give a map more suited to the car. Get it done you won't regret it.

Yes - technically true for "dealers" - however, my map was done at HQ and was personally adjusted to acheive desired drivability.

Hmm, what bugs me is that they have a map for the 1.0 Polo, and 1.6 A3, but not 1.6 Golf. Of all Golfs I would have thought this was the most common and the one that would benefit most and have the most potential customers. I don't suppose the 1.6 A3 is a million miles from the unit in the Golf, but I keep checking and they don't have anything yet.

Thanks for the replies.

Superchips works out @ about ?511, the main reason Im swaying towards them is the locality of it.

Im intrigued by the relatively new Custom Code @ JBS, but that's about
300 miles away from me! I was always under the impression that
Superchips were rubbish and just a bit of a common brand name - Dunno
why!

I think Superchips had some problems with its dealer network a few years ago but the product itself is very good.

Have you thought about Upsolute in Rochester (Impossible Performance) I think that costs less than ?300.00.

Also there's Revo in Thurrock (Big Boys Toys) thats about ?500.00.

A drop in chip will be OK for cars with no additional engine mods, but at the end of the day ,a remap will be the better option.

A friend of mine had his 130bhp diesel chipped by Upsolute and he is very happy with the result and the cost is super.

I pretty much crossed Upsolute off the list after Lee (wallacel) had the aggro with his turbo!

I seem to have got myself confused between chips, generic remaps & custom remaps.

Who offers what?

150bhp & 250lb/ft torque seem to be what most places quote, which seems a fair increase with getting silly.

Im just struggling to find the difference between remaps/chips and whether the map is custom or generic.

The only place that seems to offer a fully custom remap is Jabbasport.

It's not so much the extra power I need, just some added 'driveability'
- It can be a bit too much 'hit&miss' if you know what I mean -
Sometiimes it goes like a train, other times it feels slower than my
1.4!

Do REVO do a limited time trial of the upgrade for the 115bhp diesel like they do on the 1.8T?

You could try..... before you buy....[Y]

There's no trial available on diesels with REVO I'm afraid.

Remap and chip are terms which are basically interchangeable now though
they are technically different I suppose. A chip involves having a
piggyback chip soldered onto the ecu containing the new map. A remap
just flashes the ecu usually through the obd diagnostic port. On a TDi
the scope for custom mapping is limited. I have a Custom Code
remap and prior to that had REVO - the difference isn't much but those
with petrol cars have noticed a bigger difference.

Hi

Custom-Code ca offer you 150bhp with 250lb/ft.

But we have an offer on at the moment.

Check out our JBS Auto Design section of the offer or give us a call on 01246 222221 or 01246 550400.

This could save you a bit of money so will cover the extra in fuel.

I'd like to say, don't rule out Upsolute just because I had a bit of
trouble. There were 5 of us who got re-mapped that day and no one else
had any trouble, not to mention everyone else who's been Upsoluted.
Personally I think my turbo was on its way out, and the re-map just
made it go quicker. Simon has been very understanding and helped me out
alot, the new turbo i'm buying is from one of his customers who he
re-mapped last year, and he is going to re-map me again when I get the
new one fitted up.

Don't think just because it happend to mine it will happen to yours
Steve, I know of another 3 115PD's that have been Upsoluted and Simon's
done loads of them without any problems whatsoever.

I think I was just a tad unlucky.

Ok, cheers Lee.

How much is Upsolute then? I can only find prices in $ and Euros!

Is it a chip or re-mapp?
