If you just want a filter a OEM Honda s2000 filter is a popular choice for the 1.8t, you'll just need to find out what size adapter to get for your maf.

I've got a 2.8 v6 4motion golf and wondered what you guys would recommend to upgrade my air filter, don't really want to spend 100quid+ on an air filter but I don't want a ripspeed special either. I'm thinking a heat shield and something like a ramair filter but what would you guys recommend?

I use a K&N induction kit which was £200ish. Sounds great and I have not had any problems with it. Definitely more responsive. But maybe too expensive for what you are after..
