Thats right, I am making the leap. 30 seconds ago ordered a Tornado Red GTI, 5 door, 18"ers, Cruise, armrest, xenons, highline computer and leather.

I am now officially the happest man in the world. Delivery early to mid March.

Very nice indeed, the leather will finish it off nicely. The wait will kill you though...I waited 3 months for my 2.0TDI but the wait was worth it, picked up the motor yesterday [][][][]

Not quite! They're not going to be selling the any MkV models over here AFAIK. I reckon that a MkV GTI would probably cost about 35,000-45,000 UKP over here with the current exchange rate and import duties. Can't remember what the exchange rate was at the time, but I think my Mk IV cost me roughly 23,500 UKP when it was 1 year old with 8000 miles on it. I think mine will be around for a little while.

There is a 5 door in red at my dealer and it looks great. It also has the leather seats which looks very nice too. Personally I would be happy with the cloth ones but then I'm a cheap-skate []

17 inch wheels also look big enough IMO, so I've saved you ?2k []

Thanks for the comments, I am like a school boy in a sweet shop. I cannot wait to go for my second test drive tomorrow at the delaer who I approached first to tell him exactly why I did not buy from them.

Seriously though, I read a recent group test about the GTI which said that the cloth was lovely but the design was such that getting a third middle passenger in the car was difficult. They claimed that the design of the leather seats made this easier. This did not influence my decision that much but it is one of those pointless little facts that you use to justify decisions in your .
