I am somewhat envious - this was my first choice before the Golf.

The local h*nda dealer was supposed to bell me when the first demo car was available in the UK - but they tossed me off so here i am!

Not bitter, as i think the petrol costs for my annual mileage would have killed the idea.

Maybe as a second, weekend car it would be somewhat fun.

Let us know your impressions mate......

Thinkin of a change myself soon, maf has gone dodgy and had another incident with the stealer already..."I don't know how long we will need the car for to do the diagnostic with" (me) "I need the car though, have you got a courtsey car?" "no we are too busy"..........**@..$$$

My mate has just bought one of those - I got a look at it a week or so ago...

I have to say I preffer the interior of the golf without question. The Honda just seems a little "plastic" for my liking. I know the Golf has plastic, but it feels and looks more tactile than that in the Honda.

I saw the silver handles in the Honda, and thought they were dull aluminium, when I found they were just speckled plastic I thought that was a bit off, why couldnt they have put a bit more effort in on the inside - then I went for a spin, and realised where they had put the effort in.....

As far as the engine is concerned, its a cracker - you cant be afraid to rev it though - after driving a diesel I would imagine it hard to rev a car that high without being afraid of blowing the thing up, enough power to give the car some real "shove in the back from the seats" pottential, and the go cart like chassis makes twisty bits a real joy!

Have fun and take care of it.

Don't blame you. Was 1st. choice for my hothatch, had everything going for it perfect engine, build quality. reliability (better than VW's), PACE, handling, interior space. Was on my way to Honda dealer last year with deposit cheque in wallet, all excited remembering 3 test drives earlier (well I do like to have a proper shakedown before I buy a car), and wife had a final look round the Type R. "We are ordering a five door version, Aren't we dear?" Did not speak to her for a week after. Needless to say I was GUTTED. Bernie

I was following a nice looking red one down the M1 just now.

Looked mean - but could you live with the rice?

I had a couple of Jap cars, and whilst they were good, they were pretty soul-less.

Don't get me wrong, they were ultra-reliable for sure and i really, really, really liked them, but I was ALWAYS looking at my neighbour's GTi and thinking....Hmmmmmmm.....Why did i give up my old GTi ??

My mate has one and we're always having banter about who's car is best.

They are really fast, no doubt, and good to drive (infinitely better than a standard Golf) but the rest of the car lets it down IMO.

The interior is fairly cheap and nasty, and the lack of equipment would seriously get on my boobies.

Air-con? Side airbags? Trip computer? Sunroof? Height adjustable drivers seat? Fog lights? Proper seat in the back as opposed to a bench? Front seats which will go back to where they were after you let someone in the back? Decent stereo?

None of the above in a type-R.

They do have a V-tec engine though. I literaly burst out laughing the first time I was in it and it hit 6 thousand revs![:D]

Now, if only we could by a car with the Honda's engine and handling, and th Volkswagens interior and subtle looks....... mmmmmmm.

I still gotta check it out guys...so the Golf isn't going yet.

Not being funny but it would have to be pretty damn good to beat my car after all mods I have done. The coilovers cured the handling and the chip has cured the lack of performance (the Type R will have less than my GTi)...and the RS4's have set it apart. I think I am driving the thing out of curiosity more than anything else...and maybe I might persuade my sister to get it and loan me the keys every now and then. But let us not kid ourselves...the Type R looks totally fast even when it's stationary...it has purpose. Good second hand buy (getting them with low mileage in Autotrader for about £13k with Air Con).

What hatch nowadays isn't better than a bog standard GTi?

I have lived with the rice before..had a Civic Sport...interior was very shoddy, but the thing only ever went to the dealership once in the year (for it's service) . The thing about rice is that most of it is total garbage...but every now and then it is tasty.
