I work in IT from home and I use dial-up! I know I Know!! I do Optical connections for companies that are mesursed in Gigabit and I use 42k on a good day if I'm lucky!

I would of guess this has been asked a thousand times but even searching the forum on dial up is a pain! but can anyone recomend an ISP for broadband? no capping as I think that will anoy me a bit... abouit 20 quid would be nice too!

Thanx guys!

My ntl is on a special half price (for a year) 9.99 for 1 Megabit.

They say the offer is exclusive and has a time limit on it but I keep
on getting the flyers through. I don't like thier cable TV but I can't
fault thier internet connection.

www.adslguide.org.uk - have a good read there's lots of views and thoughts on there.

Until the monumental disaster over the last 2 days I'd have recommended
Eclipse (www.eclipse.net.uk) but I suspect a respectable number of
their customers have just quit!

All I would say personally is avoid anything that has the letters BT in it - eg BT Homeworld, BT Broadband, BT Yahoo, etc.

Yes, and I've heard mixed results ever since they took over!

Credit where credit's due - my broadband very very VERY rarely goes
wrong. It's just when it does, it goes for bloody hours [:(]

3 major outages that I've noticed in 4 years though, it's not too bad (2 were BT faults)

Plusnet really can't be beaten at the moment. You can get a static ip,
good speeds, no cap (or a very high cap that won't affect you) and
cheap at ?22 a month.

I didnt find the outage was that much of an issue. First time in nearly two years where I have ever had an issue and for me I was offline for one night, unlike when I was on BT, when that was a monthly occurence.

I would reccomend Eclipse, on the odd occasion I have had to call their technical support desk to find out some info, always spoken to someone very friendly, easy to understand (i.e.not a foreign call centre) and always very quick to answer.

heres a quick summary to date of my experiences with BB providers:

Tesco = great service, good speeds, and reliable

Bulldog = do not go there, poor speeds, poor support, poor poor poor

UKonline = good price, good service and good speeds! (currently with them, no fixed term contract, so can quit and go elsewhere when i want)

1am as a rule .Ive got 2 mths left on contract and next provider i use
will be on a monthly contract as they do seem to change there t&c's

Its really weird hearing people talk about Eclipse; 10 years ago it was
a tiny company operating from three rooms in an Exeter office building,
all run by a guy named Mark Lang, who felt he looked too young and grew
a beard so that people would take him seriously. Nice guy in
fact...sounds like broadband transformed the business because he sold
out to Kingston for 8 figures. Still based in Exeter though!

I just signed up for Bulldog - 8MB and phoneline for ?10.50 a month on a three month trial, then Ill change to someone else.

years, currently on 3mb & only the one outage in that time. And
that will be upped to 10mb for free soon [:)]

www.plusnet.co.uk or www.f9.co.uk

fantastic service levels.

avoid wannado.tiscali.aol.

They key thing is ... If using for business, then a business related
product will receive better support as opposed to the discounted ?14.99
options. Many of the mass market ones do not gear themselves
sufficiently for business users (when I say business, I mean connecting
to the office, supporting customers and not just I have a business that
I want to connect to the internet)
