My work as a surveyor involves me travelling up to 150 miles and back each day to various building sites across the North west and Yorkshire.

As a result of this I am putting far too many miles on my Golf and it's too hard to keep clean so have decided to buy a Van, so I can save the Golf for best.

It only needs to be small, (I can get all my Survey kit in the boot at the mo) but economical and reasonably quick.

The last van I had was an Escort (Non turbo) diesel. This did 0-60 in 20 ish seconds and wouldn't go past 55 - 60 on M62 over the pennines.

What does anyone suggest. Vauxhall do the Astravan which comes with Air Con, CD, Etc. Not keen on Vauxhalls but it seems to be the best of the bunch, has 2.0 DTI engine (which may be chip-able?) any more ideas.

Wish they did a MK IV Golf Van.

caddy all the way [:D] I've got an sdi, it will just crack a ton, handles better than my golf (15" mo's) and if you get a tdi you can make them pretty fast (90bhp standard).

What about a MKIII Golf estate TDI???

Should be able to pick a good one up for decent money..I know it's not a van, although you will have the comforts of a normal car..

Cheers

2. 1.9 Litre TDI 74KW Van € 21,340

3. 1.9 Litre TDI 74KW Van Comfortline € 22,290

4. 1.9 Litre TDI 96 KW Van Comfortline € 24,755 (the PD130)...

130bhp van!! cool, could really terrorise on the fast lane in that.

I am aware that they did a MK 1 and MK 2 van, but we've never had the MK 4 here.

I'll cover my cars ears.

Believe me foxy - I thought of that! But the powers that be said that it had to be bought as a commercial to gain the tax breaks. You can't make your own van.
