Right, the new car, with it's front lip has a 4inch clearance from the ground.....it's been lowered 30mm so this doesnt help. Is there anything I can do? Apart from avoiding all roads with speed bumps (I will inevitably hit the lip first) and taking it off and replacing it with say the R32 bumper, does anyone have any wise ideas? My 18's on the car won't make hardly any difference over the stock 16's because of the lower tyre profile, theres about a cm in difference (which will help, but not much!).

Should I just set up my own hotline to the highways agency for all my claims!? [:p]

You'll have enough clearence mate, as the biggest a speed bump can be
is 10cm by law which is 4 inches roughly so if it does scrape get on to
the council and give them a piece of you mind and make them pay, or you
could just put in standard springs instead of the lowered ones.

Well mate, the Oettinger Valance that you have is not cheap so be very careful!! Simple!!

I am currently on my third valance!! It's exepensive but I think now I have learnt to drive more carefully!!

I only have troubles with speed ramps if you hit them too fast and also slopes can cause difficult situations.

(Mine is lowered 35mm on 18's for reference).

Yer cheers. I know for certain there is a couple of places I won't be able to go, one of them being my local garage as both entrances are on quite a hill!!

I was worried about those real nasty speed bumps you get in car parks, the sharp and high ones [:^)]

Nope!!! This is too low! I have scaped it twice already only had it 2 days and haven't even been over a speed bump yet. I'm gonna take a pic tommorow of the space between the standard alloys and tyres and the wheel arch, maybe someone could tell me if its actually been dropped by 50mm.

The car is about 4 inches off the ground on the front lip and all the way up the side because of the skirts. I know I'm oing to scrape it again tommorow getting into the car park I go in nearly every day as it goes up a slight kerb and then up again.....that's going to make my eyes water [:$]

I WILL hit speed bumps, no doubt about it. Basically have scraped it coming off a junction on a slight downhill slope and going into a garage which again went up a slight kerb and up a very slight incline. [*-)]

Any more wise comments!? Would this indicate that the car may be dropped 50mm....there is about an inch between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch...

I used to scrape the front valance on some speed humps in my standard,
sports suspension equipped Bora 4Motion. Not to mention low kerbs in
car parks and inclined driveways. If you drive a lowered car with
an Oettinger valance, you should expect to scrape it every now and then
- can't have it both ways unfortunately!

Very true words Mike.

I was so fed up with mine that I sold it for a 25th Anniversary valance which up to now has been speedbump friendly.

What doesn't help is the protruding lip that shows every little scuff and mark.

I think with it being lowered its causing a problem. I don't mind changing the front....does anyone have any suggestions as to nice, but not so low front lips? Think it would look a tad silly with nothing on the front but the rest of the car having something?

I am afraid that I am going to have to back up what other people have said, if you don't want to catch and scrape the front valance then you shouldn't have the kit or the car lowered? As bad as it sounds that the truth!!!

I have adjusted my parking and driving style with the bodykit on and like I have said, now on my third valance I think that I have perfected the art of parking and speed humps, LOL!!

You have to admit though that a lowered car looks better than a tractor?

Buy a stock valance for day-to-day driving and keep the Oettinger lip for Sunday best... It's the only way (other than jacking up the car on 4x4 suspension lol)

I'm doing this with the Anni front lip as I've scraped it twice now and I should really know better....

Forgive me here [:$]

How easy is it to swap them? I was thinking just a normal valance and spraying it to match, would look silly with the rest of thr car. I can't go over speed bumps, I tried last night, slowly, very slowly. These were just normal bumps next to a school. As soon as I get near them, crunch. Bit of a pain if I need to go somewhere with them! Sure I could get over them, but then I have the same space between the side skirts and the floor, so when the front wheel comes off, crunch along the side skirts [:(]

I have to admit, these are fairly large speed bumps, which is why I tried them, those narrow, tall, horrible ones.

Picture (brightened it up) to show how much room I have....

I am pretty confident that you have as much clearance as me mate?

Mine scrapes on big speed ramps but then I am sure other peoples does? I have to say that if you get a standard OEM valance colour coded it will look a little odd, the front end willl be too high, I had to put my standard one on when I smashed my valance ages ago, hated it!!

Do you encounter many speed ramps?

Its not the speed bumps to much, its the roads where you come off say a junction down a hill onto a flat road, scrape it every single time!

Maybe its me being paranoid as this is the first car thats scraping the ground! I have learnt already though to go off at 45 degree angles if possible..I must look a little silly!

It isn't just the speed bumps you've got to be careful of. I had all kinds of bother with my old GTI when it came to steep inclines and declines - espesially retail parks etc. where the laws of level road building seem to go out of the window [:S]

A sprayed up stock valance, possibly a Bora V6 item, won't look too bad. It will match the other styling you have anyway [Y]

I scraped my standard valance once! Going  about 80mph down a steep hill which suddenly went into a steep up hill. This is the road from Two Mills towards the A55 on the way to wales for anyone local. Mine is lowered 40mm but no paint to scrape off my valance (as yet). Maybe you should get an anni valance! Do they fit the bora? not seen it done before.
