I am collecting my new GTI tommow from the stealers, fingers crossed...[:D]<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Can I ask, is there anything I should check on the car before driving away? Apart from the obvious stuff like options, paint condition etc?

Snap!

I am picking up my new GTI tomorrow as well, its sad but i wont get much sleep tonight! lol.

I have been told to make sure that the bottle opener is there, also i think there is ment to be a small bottle of engine oil too.

I am picking mine up from Specialist Cars in Aberdeen, my wife is driving it away from the garage half way home. the first part of the journey is all traffic, the rest is all fast back roads. i think i have got the better deal. She would sulk if i didnt let her drive part of the way, i hate traffic anyway. im more of a country person!!

Enjoy the day! It's always quite a special moment when you first catch sight of the machine you've been waiting for for so long. With the GTI, it's well worth the wait - it's a fantastic car and every bit as good as what all the press has said about it.

I love mine to bits and now I can actually give the car a bit of "welly" - boy does it shift and it does it in such a beautifully balanced way... I'll have to stop as I'll be wetting my pants!! [:$]

I know what you mean. In the last 5/6 years I have owned a few beemers, 330ci, 530i sport, 528i sport, 330dSE, and an 02 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Of all the cars I rate the Gti as the best in terms of an all round car. The 5 series were great until the dreaded uncurable shimmy, the 330d was pretty good but suffered a bit of Turbo/auto box lag, and the Audi was quick but soul-less and heavy on fuel - the only one that came close was the 330ci which I loved but had to sell when I was made redundant in 2002. At present I cant really fault the GTi, Quick, comfortable, good looks, and frugal on a motorway run, something the 3.0l beemers never were.

So enjoy the new car, and have a few beers tonight to help you sleep

Hi,Enjoy tomorrow I picked my GTi up two weeks ago. Can you let me know out of interest if you receive the special GTi service wallett. I didn't receive mine and according to my dealer they are not issued but obviously according to this site they are! Have contacted VW customer services and still waiting for their answer. Any suggestions from any otherGTi owners as to what to do next.

You will have so much fun wiht the GTI then - I put up with the traffic
cos I have to commuting in and out of London but further out there's so
many cracking lanes and what not to play with... Gives the car a nice
work out (wait until you've let the car settle in for a bit before u
really welly it about!), and pumps the adrenaline - well it does for me.

Nigh on 15k now and it's still getting better and tighter as time ticks by... Enjoy [h]

OK, Picked the car up this morning and did a few miles... its been a long time since I just got in a car and wanted to just drive arround [:D]

Can't wait to red line her but just taking her upto 5 or 6 k is still a buzz.

Pic is here http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h310/ste7euk/IMGP0606.jpg I hope this link works.

Someone asked about a wallet? If you mean the leather bound service book holder, then yes I got one. Very nice it is too!

Really like the DSG [au]

..sadly it's now two weeks late, I've been told I'll have it before Friday, so with any luck only five more days to wait. I'm not holding out any hope though to be honest. Motorprovider never return my calls, they're so busy taking sales calls that they forget about the people that have actually signed up for a car. "Shocking" is the best way I can describe their customer service, not so much as a letter or courtesy call to let me know the car is late - I had to find that out for myself, and even now I don't have a definate delivery date. The estimate of "next week" is based upon the delay with the cars arriving, i.e. the customers before me had to wait three weeks extra, so therefore mine should be about the same. I hope that nobody from this board ever buys a car from them, let this experience be a lesson for everyone. Utterly shameful. [N]

BTW - Well done to any 'pool fans on pulling off another amazing comeback and penalty shootout! (from a non-bitter MUFC fan) [;)]

Hi All

I just picked up my new motor on Saturday. I didnt sleep very well on the Friday night. When i got to the garage i couldnt see it. the sales man drove it round, i was gob smacked at how smart it looked. He showed me round the car, i asked about the tub of oil for the boot. He went and got one FOC! the leather wallet has been replaced by a leather folder now on all 2006 golfs. The bottel opener was there as well. The only thing that let us down that morning was the rain, it was pissing down! the wiper blades were squeeking badly, they had some red delivery ones on when i picked it up. when i got home i noticed that they could slide off, showing the proper blades under them. The car came with half a tank of fuel, that lasted a day of burning around.

I must say that i wasnt very impressed with the quality of the valeting done on my car, the wax was patchy and the windows and dash were dusty. i washed and waxed the whole car on the Sun with all my new Meguiars products (very impressed). i cleaned the dash and windows, now thats how a new car should look i said to my wife!

i then fitted the Dension ise link docking cable with no problems, no dash dammage at all! Sounds great, having a few problems with the menu on the ipod through the ice link. i will need to contact support @ Dension, i can access the menu but cant s elect the item i highlight (strange).

dont bother they are less than useless. I have emailed them a few questions now and got nothing back. I have heard of others who also said their support was non existant. Glad you're happy with the car. I found that the menus were very slow so i dont bother with them. A quick way to play something which is not one of the 1-5 playlists is to take th ipod out of the cradle, find the album manually and start it playing, then put the ipod back in the cradle, it will play fine.
