Hi all, as the heading says how much oil should a golf use in a year. I have had to top mine up twice so far, I got the car servived in Feb this year. I had to top it up about 4 months back and then last Friday I checked the oil level and had a shock when there was no mark on the dip stick so I had to top it up again. I have no oil leaks nor does it smoke out of the back. Is this normal for a golf to use a lot of oil? or have I got major problems coming. Any help would be grateful. Cheers.

I haven't topped up my Bora for 5 months now and there's been no decrease. It reminds me of my Japanese cars that I've had over the years... just fuel and flame... no water or oil top-up required.

In fact, I'm gonna check the oil level later on again today just in case I might be missing something.

I dont do a lot of mileage, the first time I went to top it up the dip stick read just over half, last friday read nothing on the dip stick, so i'm guessing it took 1 ltr to grt it up to the right level.

In between the first and second top up i reckon i have done around 1500 miles i think.

Just going back to this JameelGTI, your post reminded me to check mine. Had an oil change about 3 weeks ago, done over a 1000 miles since then (more than normal for me) and it's just taken another litre!![:O]

Seems the 2.0 takes a lot of watching as far as oil goes....this seems a lot to me anyway? Nothing to worry about, just got to get in the habit of checking it...

My previous Golf (GTI 2.0) used to drink oil like there was no tomorrow. I was constantly having to fill it up (no there wasn't a leak). The dealer told me that the 2.0 GTI's do use a lot of oil. I had to fill up the oil every 2 months! The level was often below the minimum, which scared the hell out of me. Good job it was a company car so I could just claim the oil back otherwise it would have cost me a fortune. Luckily my 4mo (non-company) uses very little. I only had to top it up a tiny bit between the 1 year service.

I dunno mate. I can only be 100% certain over the next month or so as the garage who done the service could have underfilled it/filled it on a slop blah dee blah. (Nah, second thoughts, they wouldn't be so silly would they[)])

That's interesting laxity. It's not a problem really, well rather it used less obviously, just have to get in the habit of checking more often.

Cheers,

C.

My 2.0 used to drink oil like there was no tommorow. Roughly 2 tanks full every 10,000 miles. Would have the 10,000 service, 4,000 miles after, the tank would be near empty, once the light coming on to tell me.

The 1.8T isn't half as bad.

My Bora 2.0 seems to come and go. Since last service 13K miles it has used 1.5 litre of magnatec. Other times it has used next to nothing. Wierd.

In a year mine has probs used 4 litres but it has done 40,000 miles in that time [;)]
