Decided to go with VW for the 60K servicing for piece of mind!

Just booked it in and it is a massive............ ?693 [:O][li]

?251 for service

?442 for cambelt, tensioner & water pump!

Is this about right or is it worth ringing around different stealers?

Buy the 60K kit from www.eurocarparts.com and get who ever to do the work. Much cheaper than going to the stealers! Most garages do not mind you supplying the parts as long as they get the labour....just don't use a VAG garage as they are a bunch of rip-off merchants. Use a specialist.....much better and they usually know much more than any VAG garage!

Book time for a 60k service is 1.6 hours so you really shouldnt be paying more than ?165...............

Book time for cambelt change is 3.3 hours so shoudnt cost more than ?350......

..........all depending on labour rates though......some dealers down south charge ?60-?70 + per hour (in london sone dealers charge up to ?100 per hour I have been told)..........

The price for the service sounds about right but the price for the belt change is about ?200 too high![:O]
Cheers for the replies! Sounds like this dealer is trying it on?

I better cancel the booking then and ring around! It is the VW dealer in St Albans (Herts) [].

The biggest joke was that I took the car to a Speciallist near hatfield (follett motors) and they wanted nearly a Grand for all that work!

I'm a bid concerned with the price differences, so can anyone give me places where they got it done, as if I can save ?200 I don't mind driving a few miles!

Just rang a couple more delaers and each one has told me the water pump does not need changing?

The cheapest so far is ?648 service + cambelt!

Does the water pump really need changing?

As 20valve says it all depends on labour rates- I enquired about getting mine done about a year ago (thought it needed done at 40k).

Dealers in Edinburgh wanted ?350, St Andrews was about ?290 and the one 5mins drive from me only wanted ?260ish!

Just phone all the ones you'd be prepared to travel to. It'll be worth spending an hour on the phone if you save some wonga[:)]

Now I have been told by one dealer the cambelt may not even need replacing!

They do a visual check to see the condition and thus it may not need changing!
However you spoke to at that dealer must be a f****ng muppet............cambelt change on TDI's are due at 60k...........dont let them tell you otherwise.................because if you leave it & it does snap then you looking at a bill that will run into thousands.............
