By very wary of buying non genuine temp senders and thermostats.

A previous poster recently had to change his thermostat twice as the car still ran cold.

Thermostats in this weather have to run almost closed, any error and your running temps are screwed.

It doesn't cost too much more at the dealers or TPS for parts.

I will dig out a link to the recent poster who suffered with his mk4.

I've changed my mk4s stat twice and sender three times in twelve years.

Would a faulty thermostat cause a missfire ?

The engine only gets to 75c and then the missifre starts...

Im guessing the engine is reading the sensors wrong and over fueling ? - your feedback is appreciated! :)

No.

It's more likely a sensor is failing when warm. I believe this happens with the crank position sensor on petrol variants, not that I have experienced this.

The source of a missfire is normally electrical / sensor / loom.

Over and under fuelling 'within reason' you won't even notice (but can be harmful to the engine in the medium/long term).
