Very very quick..... i was taken out in a Revo'd 225 that a local dealership had in. Speed seems to pile it on at a scary rate.... there won't be a lot of cars out there that are as brutal mid-gear.

The LCR will be quicker than the S3 in gear, also in the hands of a good driver the LCR with LSD wouldnt be too far away on launches.

A lot less weight and lower transmission losses.

Transmission losses for 4wd cars are not as great as some may think. Dasktek's dyno in Fife has seen all manner of evo's scoobies, s3's etc, and the difference over a 2wd can be as low as 5-10bhp.

Its still there though DC, allbeit not as great a factor as you would first think.

A quick search found these kerb weights:

2001 S3 - 1533KG, 270ish remapped = 176bhp/ton

LCR - 1376KG, 270ish remapped = 196bhp/ton

Golf 1.8T - 1206KG, 235ish remapped = 195bhp/ton

Clio 182 - 1090KG, 182bhp = 167bhp/ton

Torque figures aside.

Jesus, i knew the S3 was heavy, but not THAT heavy..... thats still a good 50kg heavier than the 3.2 engined R32 FFS! The Leon R feels so much better setup as standard than an S3 too, i drove both and the Leon, whilst far from perfectly balanced, is much more the sportier car to drive.

Yeah, definately right for the R, is a heavy old car. Even my Cupra weighs in at something like 1320kg... which is odd considering the equivalent GTI with the same engine (i.e. yours!) weights in almost 100kg less...

Even my 4x4 Estate (just)weighs in at less than the S3 at 1500kgs.

Any ideas on the weight of the 225 TT roadster? I had no probs against one on my way home tonight.

That is approaching the weight of my lardy M3! Still, I encountered a chipped TTR and it just flew on the motorway! Top-end speed is way better on these cars with their K04 set-up! So don't feel too glum Ian, you'd wipe the smile of a lot of GTIs once you hit 120mph - of course you'd only be able to do so outside the UK [;)]

Encountered a 2001 S3 today. Friendly bloke undertook some peeps on the motorway we were on, so i thought fair play, game on.

Although we were both really going for it, i was really able to out gun him deep into 5th and 6th gear.

It was great out doing friendly S3 driver, until my mate in his 996 Turbo S just left us both dead. and I MEAN left us
