Hi,

What's the easiest way of telling a PD115 or PD130 from a PD150?

What's the most obvious differences between them? I know you can look at the sticker in the wheel well, but - how can you tell if you don't have physical access to the car? I've been looking at a few to buy online, but dealers sometimes omit the bhp and I'm left wondering if I'm looking at a PD150 or a PD115.

A handy guide would be a boon.

you can't really the 130 & 150 are the same except i believe the 150 had the center rear head rest as standard, i am unsure perhaps someone could clarify?

As for the 115 i don't know, pehaps 15" wheels instead of 16"? I am not being much use here so i will shut up now.

The 150 has 16" monty2's & extra vents in the lower front valence too.

Its also got VW SPORTS seats, suspension & wood trim inserts.

& Climate instead of aircon

& More than likely a GTI Badge [V]

The brakes on the 115PD are smaller. I think there 256mm and on the 130/150's there 288mm.

they are slightly smaller at 280mm with the FSIII calipers! no much difference in size, but if upgrading the 288's are the ones u want! Not like mine [:(]

dont go by the badges! never know what is what!

It may be on your 130[V], but its standard on 150's (& 1.8T) [:D]

Okay, thanks chaps. Now, were 150's only badged as GT TDI's, or were there SE 150's too?

(Don't get me started on 'GT TDI' - as far as I've seen, VW have applied this moniker to the 110 non PD, PD115, PD130 *and* PD150! Talk about confusing!)

I guess the 4mo-esque front valence is a good giveaway then, Jace? I've seen a few cars advertised as PD150's with Avus and original Montys - I take it this is unlikely?

We have an 01' reg PD150 Mk4 in our company car fleet at work. It is badged as GT(red)i and looks almost exactly the same as a 150 1.8t, same size disc brakes, same montreal II alloys, sport seats, climate control etc. Only real giveaways are slightly different lower valance on front bumper (extra air intake) and rev counter with much lower redline. I have seen some PD150s with the all red TDI badge, but they are a lot rarer.

I know the badging was a male chickenup on MK4s and is hard to trust, but the general rule was that a TDi 130 was badged silver T and red DI, TDi 110 badged as silver TD and red eye and lesser TDi's were badged in all silver?

I thought all the PD engines are GT spec, no SE models.

100 PD engines are SE spec - all from 115 upwards are GT spec 150 has other differnces such as FMIC.

No visual difference (in photos) between 115 and 130 as either could have options such as climate and wheels etc. which would confuse. All the GTs have sports seats of one form or another, Recaros were options on all too, the 150s have the extra slots in the valance, DON'T go by badges!

Detail differences:

115 - easily seen through the wheels FS III on the front calipers

130 - no visible difference from the outside (build sticker is the only true indicator of model)

150 - Front valance

Most of this has already been highlighted by the other guys. But as far as extras and badges are concerned the only true way of telling which is which is to look at the build sticker in the boot - if it's not there then ask why, as it may have been rear-ended.

Yes, 150s came with either Monty IIs or Santas other wheels were optional, but you'll find if it's got Avus IIs then it's more likely a 115/130 and Monty 1s will have most likely been fitted by the owner.
