Anyone got any tips for home wheel refurbs?

Im doing a set at the mo and am going to sand the lips and just paint the with aluminum paint[Y]

But i was wondering if people had any tips?

have done a few sets of rims, only advice is the finish will only ever be as good as the prep,for primer id use an etch primer, warm the wheels up if you can when painting them,clean and dust free area for painting. if its not very warm id drop the spray cans in a bucket of warm water,good luck,show us some pics when your done

etch is a better primer for aluminium,it does in effect etch into the metalwork ,less chance of the primer lifting and a more durable paint covering

no its ok,we all have to learn,hold a magnet to it,if the magnet sticks to it then its steel,if not its probably ally.pic might help.

make sure your hands are clean. its al very well making your wheels de dusted and de greased, if you got grubby mits and touch your wheel, its as good as not cleaning them in the first place.

Take your time, and watch a load of videos on you tube if you have nver done it before. you will pick up alot of tips from there.

i use an etch primer its called u-pol, available from most accesories shops as well as halfords.oh and as gman1982 says,clean hands too
