Hi all, I'm a newbie[^].

My wife will be the proud owner of a 2002 Golf GTi 1.8T on Saturday. Its a surprise so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh[:D].

Its a 5 door, in Metallic Black, with winter pack and full Recaro black leather interior. Well she does have to keep up with my motor[;)].

Looking forward to some interesting chat and will post some pics once I can do it justice. Will also be looking for advice in making it nicer.[:p]

Regards, AnilS.

Get ready to spend spend spend...........Big mistake joining this forum if you aint good for a couple of ggggggggg's..lol

Many thanks. Don't worry about the ggggggggggggg's.[|)]

I run an RX8, so you need plenty of those[;)]. Wife is selling her Yaris, so there goes our cheap motoring out of the window I suppose[8D].

Mate the rx8 is a 1.3 rotary engine.......Not a 2.6ltr.......[^][^][^]

Nope, its a 2.6. Alot of people think because its 2 x 650cc chambers bolted together, quite logically think its 1.3. However, because it cranks at twice the rate of a reciprocating piston engine, you have to say, 2 x 1300 = 2600cc.

It has won Engine of the year twice (2003 and 2004) in the 2.5 to 3.0 litre category, and is listed as 2.6 litres on my V5 log book.

Anyway, get a Golf today, hurrah![|)]

yep, def classed as 2.6.

A friend of mine picked his RX8 up a couple of weeks ago, and i've got to say that it is quite a fantastic piece of kit - very good handling and super smooth performance...

....Anyway, enjoy the golf mate.

I'm lucky I suppose having both RX8 and GTi to play with but there goes my cheap (and very reliable) motoring, when we part company with the Yaris[:O][:D].

Hey AnilS, nice to see you over here.

I was about to jump in with the whole 2.6 explanation before I realised you'd already done it [:D] cc's seem to be the measure of a man here[:)]

Small world Steve[:p]. Nice to know I'm not alone. Don't worry, not defecting, just adding to my car portfolio[;)]. 2.6 + 1.8 = 3.4 litres but I'm still not a big man.[|)]

So, it's Saturday.

Has she been surprised yet [:D]

Yup, lost for words in fact (believe me thats rare [|)]). The Golf with all its options was not that far from the basic price of my RX8, so I think I've paid for a bargain Golf. Clean and wax due tomorrow so will post pics then.

You'll go mad trying to prove it. Its still 2.6 and Mazda will not change their website as it look good to have it as 1.3 (especially pub banter). In their other literature, quoting their engine awards, they claim its 2.6.

Strange world we live in.[:)]
