Hi
Im soon going to be taking Bernard, my beloved 21-year-old Mk 4 Golf to France and I’d like to know how you adjust the dipped beam of the headlights for driving on French roads. Is it something I can do myself? I do have a Haynes manual for the car but I don’t have it with me right now.
Thanks for any help.

oem ones can't be switched over they'll always aim to one side... best way to deal with that is to add those stickers you can get to cut the light beam. But if you are lucky and your car has aftermarket hella headlights you might be able to just lift a lever in both thus setting them for driving on the otherside of the road.

Hi Northpole
Thanks for your response. Alas, the stickers are no use as the ‘controle technique’ - the French version of our MOT - doesn’t accept them and I’ll need to put the car through this test within a month of arriving. And I’m pretty sure the headlights will be oem. So …

buy a pair in the EU... don't know when you are leaving but basically it's a simple swap around... you just take the headlights off and replace them with the EU set if you still got enough time i'd get a set off ebay Germany, France, Belgium or the Netherlands and put them on once you get there it'll be in time for the France MOT ;)

cables are the same just make sure you get the same type of headlights as the oem xenon versions have a different connector.

That’s a good idea. I’ll check it out.
Thanks again.
