Hi,

ive been offered a 2001 golf with the 1.4 AXP engine fitted from a friend but he believes the head gasket has gone due to it getting very hot when running. while talking about getting it repaired he suggested i would be better sourcing a replacement engine rather than replacing the gasket due to problems with golfs cylinder heads once the headgasket has gone. the car hasnt been used since the overheating began. is there any truth in what he is saying?

thanks

lee

More likely to be a broken waterpump impeller. Cheap as chips to buy, if you replace the pump do the cambelt and tensioner at the same time (saves on labour in the future).

As Chris said, look for oil/water contamination or oil/waterconsumption for head gasket failure.
