Further to my post here >http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/409827.aspx

Have discovered today that the head gasket has blown due to white mayonaise on the oil filler cap. I'm all good with the ins and outs of the head gasket and replacment etc what I want to know though is weather or not a blown head gasket would cause engine knock? I'd only put that sort of noise down to a big end on the way out or a cam/little end bearing problem. I may be wrong. has anyone had any similar issue.

My theroy is that the engine has taken on water through the blown gasket whilest stationary and on ignition has tried to preasurise it and broken somthing expensive.
