There's a nut which is hidden behind the handbrake lever. If you remove the centre console bit behind the handbrake you can get to it easy enough. Removing the arm rest (if you have one) helps as well.

I had one cable which was screwed.. which is why it's all at such a weird angle. I changed both my handbrake cables after taking that picture.
You can just tighten that one nut and you'll get less travel on your handbrake, easy enough!
Edit: The haynes manual does tell you to check some clearances on the rear callipers. You should be alright so long as you don't tighten it too much. If you have a look at the rear callipers.. the little lever that the handbrake cable pulls on should be about 1mm from the stop. If it's more or less than that you have to adjust it. It should make sense if you get under the car and have a look!
