Had my car book in at stealers this Tuesday morning, Told service department about the problems I've been getting with my car.

1) Grinding sound when I turn left.

2) Clonking sound under the car.

They said no problem we will ring u later to tell u what the problem is True to their word they rang back and said these are ur problems.

1) O/S Outer CV Joints and Boot Kit.

2) O/S & N/S ARB Bushes.

3) Front Brake Pads.

I replied will this solve my problems, they said YES. I gave authorisation to do the work. Went to stealers on Wednesday to pick her up I said has the car been Road Tested they said yes it has paid 470 pounds (ouch) on the way home I decided to go to a carpark to see if the grinding noise is there. To my horror ITS STILL THERE. WTK is going on here could not get through to them last night. Phoned this moring and was asked to bring the car back. More time of work. Got there full of Apologies said it was there fault. I said what about a refund on the parts not needed for my car, they said u can have a refund but u will be charged when u come back on Monday to solve the problem. Otherwise all costs for parts and labour r down to VW's if no refund is given. I am so p***ed of at the moment dont know if i should keep her or just get rid. Car booked in again for Monday am, this means no car again buses and cabs again. They can't even give me courtesy car as none r available until DECEMBER!!! how s**t is that. And to top it of I have had no internet at home for 4 days now as its gone down NTL said it should be fixed by tonight! Yeh right. I'm haveing a wonderful week so for how about u guys!!. [:(!][B)][xx(].

Sorry rant over

470 quid to replace some ARB bushes, 1 CV joint and some front brake pads!! Jesus, they saw you coming, didn't they? [:(]

Get back there and demand to speak to the Dealer Principle. Accept no substitute, kick up a fuss and make a scene. It'll be much better for them to appease you than have you causing a commotion in their showroom.

They charged me.

1) 90 quid labour for O/S CV Joints (price does not include parts)

2) 90 quid labour for ARB Bushes (price does not include parts)

3) 75 quid for front brake pads (price does not include parts)

Their labour charges r ridicules 75 quid for a F***ing hour.

I feel like a train has been rammed up my back side [B)]

Yes ?75 an hour is a pleasant sum, but lets not forget the Government's attitude that those earning ?5 an hour are getting a good crack. Can you imagine having to work for 15 hours in order to pay a useless VW mechanic for an hour of their time. It must be heartbreaking.

Just read Jameel's experience with interest. See this thread http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=41648. I feel a bit better now cos I thought my dealers labour charges were dear! Sorry Jameel[:I]

The way they are going you would think we owned Rolls Royces. OH, didn't VW try to buy them once?

Seriously though, how does dealers Labour charges vary so much from area to area?

The way VW see it is anyone who owns a VW can afford their charges and they like being rammed up the ass by them. Unfortunately I have to go back to then on Monday for them to correctly identify what the grinding noise is. They also said that I will not be charged for whatever the problem is, the only problem with that is, if the fault is only a few quids worth what r they going to do about my 470 quid bill. I think i'll ask for a refund on the parts that were not needed and see what they say.

Nightmare!

Ask them to either give you a refund or re-fit the original parts back on!! They'll have to give you the refund...

Ask them to daignose the problem again when you take the car back to them, get the technician in the car with you and demo the problems. When they inform you what they think is wrong, post it on the forum with prices and we can advise you if it's reasonable!!

I recently had a brake servo pipe replaced fro the second time. Authorised them to do the owrk as the service receptionist said they would work out something on the payment. Got there for them to try and charge me the full amount. I stuck to my guns and told them to detail everything they'd done and I'd then consider paying for it!

They backed down to about ?50 for the job, which I said I would pay but I didn't believe I should be and would speak to the service manager. Next day phoned him up and VW customer care and got a refund for the ?50...

Brake Servo pipe was a recall, certainly for me.

There should not have been any charge!

If you need details let me know.

Take it to a different dealer to get it diagnosed.

I changed dealers when i had my polo cos the monkeys couldn't understand that a rumbling noise that sounds like a wheel bearing IS a wheel bearing and not the gearbox, which they changed twice- cos they didn't install the first one right!!! at least it was all warranty work.

I found a good dealer now, had no problems so far and lads at work are using them too and they think that they are brill!!!

Good news lads the grinding noise is GONE!!! wey hey!! your all gonna love what it was. It was the engine mount the one next to the Cam Belt only one good mechanic their, who heard and saw the problem and diagnosed it correctly. They did not charge me for it. The only problem was that I got a quarter way down the road and the revs were going up and down like a yoyo engine tried to cut out. So a very quick U turn and back down to the dealers. They re-set the throttle housing. Only problem is now everytime I start the car it revs very low for a second or two then its ok. I see another trip to the dealers tomorrow, just not my luck!!. I spouse I'll have to see what they come up with now as it was ok when I gave it to them on Monday.
