Ah, but we don't all live in Scotland [;)]

Sadly that is true.[:D]

However, it seems to be a psychological fact that people prefer silver. On 2 occasions, my better half has insisted that the car is silver.

Me, i prefer blue.

We also have a Tornado Red demo GTI & even though its the colour that you all the press cars seem to have been it looks better in the flesh than on paper.

We also have a Laser Blue 5 door with 18" alloys. Although the 18"s look the same as the 17"s the finish is slightly different. It has a more polished face to it & the edges of the spokes are in a steel grey colour. If your thinking of getting a GTI I would definitly go for 18"s

Funnily enough, I'm getting a laser blue GTI with 18" wheels on Thursday [:D]

Nice, was very close to buying a laser blue one myself, but in the end stayed with my original choice, black. Have you got any mods planned, Mick? I was thinking of colour coding, 19s and maybe coilovers.

Your choice of course but is it worth risking losing the fine handling/ride balance of the standard GTI by changing the suspension[?]

Agreed with the coments on steel grey. Very nice colour on a standard mkV, but somehow doesn't suit the GTI. Took me a couple of minutes to actually realise that the steel grey one in the corner was a GTI!

I've seen in the flesh;

Black- stunning, THE colour to go for.

Red- very nice, the only other colour that would tempt me away from black.

Steel Grey- nice colour but too dull for the GTI.

Silver- again doesn't do the GTI justice. The Goatee stands out too much and the red trim and black side skirts don't look right.

Fair point and one I was also wondering about myself. Out of the 3 mods I mentioned, it's one I'm least likely to do!

Listers Evesham have a Steel Grey GTI in their showroom (available to anyone that wants it, i was very tempted!!) and it looked awesome. It was a colour I never considered, but now its the one I will go for. Its the same shade as the Leon Cupra R's Platinum Silver... lurvley [:p]

(If anyone is interested in owning a GTI without the wait its spec is: 3 door, Steel Grey, Leather, 6 disc and can be driven away by the end of the month! - price is as list... around ?22750 ish)

Hi 20valve can you post some pictures up???

I'm ordering this saturday but still can't make my mind up. I've seen black and red so far both looked really good. However yesterday I saw shadow blue, loved the colour. Problem I'm find is that dealers only have red, black or sliver. Its gonna be a case of order it and see, for example red in a standard MK5 looks awful IMHO but looks really hot as a GTI.

Anyway I've boiled it down to:

1. Shadow Blue

2. Met Black

3. Maybe Steel Grey

On another note (don't flame me for this). My dealer told me that VW has preregistered approx 2000 GTI's....most of them are with dealers. He claims that in a few years the market will be flooded with red models....in other words red will be worth less.

I think colour-coding makes sense on every colour so I'm def interested in doing it to mine (the matt black rear valance is a bit naff IMO). Once she's got a few miles on I'll def be getting a re-map! Then I'll sort the wheels/coilovers. Might go for deep dish 18's rather than 19's/20's.

I've seen laser blue in the flesh, in fact I'm buying my local dealer's showroom car. I placed my order for a black one last Tuesday but then decided to do a deal on the laser blue one in the showroom as I really like the colour, the spec was right for me and it was available this week (I'm getting it this Thursday, I was looking at April+ for a delivery date otherwise).
