Could somebody please confirm the difference between GTI Luxury Pack 1 and GTI Luxury Pack 2, the brochure is very confusing on the issue!! Could you also provide prices for both as well, cheers Just deciding which one to go for as I want the rain sensor, dusk sensor and electrically folding mirrors but not overly bothered about anything else.

The rain and dusk sensor comes as standard on the GTi.

Lux pack 1 for the GTi has the power folding mirrors and surrounding area lighting.

Lux Pack 2 for GTi is the same as 1 but you get auto-dimming door mirrors as well.

Note that to fold the mirrors in, you need to turn the mirror adjust knob to the fold position - unfortunately they don't fold automatically when you lock the car, etc.

Also they only go in by about an inch or two - very disappointed but at least they weren't a shockingly expensive option at about a ?100 or so.

Don't know what the latest prices are though.

IMO if your going to get the folding mirrors go for Lux Pack II with the auto dimming mirrors.

If you do any regular night time M or A road driving you'll find them useful.

Folding mirrors are a waste of yr pennies IMO - the don't go flush to the doors as you would expect so don't both

Only thing i'd say about having both internal AND external mirror dimmers is it don't half make it difficult to work out if the car behind (or a few cars behind) is a copper or not. Glad I've only got the internal one (which gets flicked off rarely).

Yes the folding mirrors are a HELP, but as people have said, a little disappoiting!

Can you manually fold the mirrors if u dont have the electric ones? doesnt seem worth forking out ?105 (I think, thats according to the newgolfgti site) just for that :S Are the rain/dusk sensors deffo std? Cos i thought they were 2

Also is the interior dimming mirror standard?

EDIT: Im a bit confused, according to the brochure (GTI specific 1/10/04) the coming home/leaving home lights, automatically dimming rear view mirror, dusk sensor, rain sensor and froint footwell illumination are all std!!

You can on the TDI, so I take it you can on the GTI

But do they go in any further than the electric ones? If not, you may as well just go for the electric ones if you're going to fold your mirrors in.

If you're buying a ?20k car, what difference does ?180 (if you go for auto-dim as well) make?

People go on about how they don't fold in much, but they fold in enough to make a difference when going into my garage, so well worth the money.

Look for the black plastic frame around the mirror glass. It should be on both sides. If you do not have the frame the mirrors are not auto dimming!

Yup, should be on both sides.. car was a mis-build & the n/s door mirror is being replaced under warranty.

A note to the original poster: The folding mirrors only fold in by about 30 degrees (2 inches). If going for the auto dimming mirrors i would recommend the foldies coz to replace the glass in the door mirrors is ?130 + Labour + VAT (EACH SIDE!) so do all you can to protect them!

Read on a German website that from about build week 45 they were only putting 'self dimming' on the drivers side mirror.( lux pack 2 )

This was one of several small spec. changes that were being introduced from that build week on Golfs.

They certainly described them as mirrors (plural) & not mirror.
& that's what I handed my money over for!

I would've been peeved if they didn't sort it!
