The glow plug light stays on for less then a second it was -13 this morning and I had trouble starting .surly the glow plugs should stay on for more like 30 seconds any ideas would be grate

coolant senser,ecu reads temperture then decides how long to put gloweplugs on for.if i am right ecu thinks you have a very warm engine due to faulty coolant sensor.get the green one off ebay or eurocar parts,same as vw.sensor is underneath tandem pump,held in with a small c clip

i used vag-com today to have a look at the glow plug timing and with the coolant at 0 it says the glow plugs stay on for 3 seconds how long should they stay on for ?

3 minite job,you wont lose too much coolant .hope it fixes it ,if not put a volt meter on one of the glow leads to earth and check you get voltage,if not look around glowplug relay,sorry i do not know number.

If you remove the coolent sensor connector it thinks its the coldest setting and turns the glow plugs on for aslong as possible. Worth a try.
